(Kate Murphy) -- Kent State officials are calling out Urban Outfitters for having "poor taste" after selling a Kent State sweatshirt they claim to be vintage. The shirt, pictured above, has a fake blood splatter across the front and the details of this shirt in the description says it is "perfectly worn in." After the outrage on social media, the item now says Sold Out on the Urban Outfitters website. Kent State officials released the following statement: "May 4, 1970, was a watershed moment for the country and especially the Kent State family. We lost four students that day while nine others were wounded and countless others were changed forever. We take great offense to a company using our pain for their publicity and profit. This item is beyond poor taste and trivializes a loss of life that still hurts the Kent State community today. We invite the leaders of this company as well as anyone who invested in this item to tour our May 4 Visitors Center, which opened two years ago, to gain perspective on what happened 44 years ago and apply its meaning to the future." The item is now for sale on Ebay for anyone willing to pay $2,500. The seller is claiming half the proceeds will go toward a charity. http://abc6onyourside.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/urban-outfitters-vintage-kent-state-shirt-causes-backlash-35143.shtml#.VBc11JRdV49 |
