Loneliness is humanity's greatest enemy.

What is that smell?

Where am I?

Who am I?

I'm lying on the ground, looking around. There is fire everywhere. I can see that there has been a great battle here. Houses, forests, everything is being engulfed by flames and smoke. There are so many bodies lying on the ground. I feel sorry for the fact that they have not been properly buried. I wonder, is there anything alive here?

I soon come to realize that I am alone. What is this feeling? My heart hurts. I begin to remember a phrase. Kokoro no Kizu. Scars of the Heart. Where did I hear that. More voices come to my memory. A voice like an angels says " The secret to life is not only to live but have something or someone to live for. Without that, life has no meaning. I'm sure everyone has a purpose. They just have to discover it."

Voices enter my head again. The angelic one is back. "Physical wounds heal and disappear eventually. But there are scars that may never disappear completely." "What kinds of scars are those?" Is that... my voice? "Kokoro no kizu. Scars of the heart. No weapons can make scars like that, but all evil things can." "Is there a way to heal this Kokoro no Kizu?" "There is a way." I hear a third voice. It sounds like that of mother's. Probably my mother. "If there is something to cause pain, then there is something to heal it. In this case, it is called Ai, Love." "Why love?" "When someone truly loves you, then you feel the need to protect that person. They become precious to you. You have a reason to live." Silence follows.

So that's why my heart hurts. I feel so alone. Why did everyone leave me? Did I do something wrong? What if I caused this!? Did I?

I have no purpose. I have no reason to live. I should die right now. "Don't die," a voice says. "Who's there?" I turn around and see a man. He had an intimidating look to him. He was tall and seemed to have an athletic build. He also had spiky midnight black hair and piercing red eyes that seemed to glow. "Do you wish to come with me and have a purpose? Or will you just live a miserable, meaningless life 'til death?"

I had no choice. I held out my hand. He helped me up. "Let's go." The stranger lifted me onto his back and tied me there. There was a whirlwind of black and red spirals. I felt dizzy and sleepy. Perhaps it would be okay if I rested... just... a... little...

Darkness.

To be continued...

Thank you. (: The inspiration for the Kokoro no Kizu came from the anime Naruto (TOTAL AWESOMENESS) where in one episode Gaara sees his uncle bleeding and his uncle explains to him pretty much the same thing as in the story.

If you didn't read my profile, then, just to let you know, Yami is my character's twin sister (fraternal, not identical).

Critique and tips, anyone? Where's Ninja Kakashi when you him? He's the best critic I know (besides my mother ;D , but that's an entirely different story).

This is actually meant to be Yami's Story Part 1, as this is going to be a series.
