I don't think I've talked much about Clone Wars here on the boards since the film. I gave the movie a * * review, but noted that in a half-hour format, it just might work. Well, it did. The show's first two seasons were great light entertainment. Sure, there was an occasional underwhelming episode, but there were also a few genuinely excellent ones. Season three responded to the criticism that the show was too action heavy. Unfortunately this meant far too many dull, political-themed episodes. So in an attempt to make the show more intelligent, the show became far less enjoyable. Then came the second half- Adapting to the obvious rut the show had put itself in, the writers closed the season with a great run of episodes that provided a nice balance of character, plot and action. The show also received a significant facelift here. The characters were given new costumes and more refined animation. Originally bashed for its animation style, the show now looks fantastic. There were a few episodes that featured superb art direction and the animation is now good enough to fully realize it. I'm very much looking forward to next season. The writers really seem to be getting the hang of what makes good Star Wars. And if nothing else, it's great eye-candy. |
