Fox has been heavily criticized (and justifiably so) for their decision to pull the plug on many, many shows.

They should, however, be given their due credit for showing faith in Fringe. Despite underwhelming ratings and a shift to Friday night (The infamous death slot), Fringe will return for a fourth season. And it's a damn good thing, too.

Season three of the sci-fi mind-bender (Which concluded last week) was its best yet.

From start to finish, this third season was more cohesive than its predecessors. The monster-of-the-week episodes became less prevalent and the show's main mythology took center stage early and often. And it did not disappoint.

Fringe has always been a good show, but since the incredible second season finale, Fringe has been masterful at times.

But wonderfully juggling a handful of different sci-fi staples (Weird science, alternate realities, time travel, prophecies) isn't all Fringe is excelling at. The characters have been really well developed. Olivia in particular has come a long way since many dismissed her as too boring of a character when the show began. I don't think anyone would make that claim now.

And even though the events in the third season finale could potentially change the entire fabric of the show, I'm thrilled we get to see where the writers are going. To have ended at this point would have been devastating.

Fringe was at the top of its game this season, and if it can continue to maintain this quality (And continue to be just profitable enough to survive), it has a chance to earn a spot among the best sci-fi shows of all time.

Did you catch the season 3 finale reunion of Denethor and Wormtongue?

It would have been much cooler if they had actually shared a scene in LOTR.
