A Year of Support Some of the other great supporting performances of the year... Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field in Lincoln Javier Bardem in Skyfall Jim Broadbent in Cloud Atlas Alan Arkin and Bryan Cranston in Argo Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises Michael Fassbender in Prometheus And just for shits and giggles...Josh Brolin in Men in Black 3 And because they aren't going to get any recognition in the best actor races but did very good work... Martin Freeman in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Daniel Craig in Skyfall Robert Downey Jr. in Marvel's The Avengers Best Actress? The Greggy Awards don't feel the need to separate categories into male and female. The best performance is the best performance, whether man or woman. Had I presented the awards in the traditional way, however, Jessica Chastain would have won for her brilliantly obsessive loner Maya in Zero Dark Thirty. Close Calls As you can see from above, best supporting performance was an extraordinarily tough call. The Hobbit was considered for Best Sound Mixing. Prometheus and Marvel's The Avengers were in the running for Best Visual Effects. John Williams was very close to winning Best Score for Lincoln. Prometheus was a lock for Best Cinematography until Skyfall. Wolski's incredible 3D camera work was enthralling. Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty were both under serious consideration for Best Director/Picture Animated Feature? I consider the separate category for animated films to be insulting. There is an inherent connotation of inferiority in segregating these very legitimate films to a lesser category. It's also rendered completely superfluous when an animated film makes the jump to Best Picture nominee a la Toy Story 3. That said, the best animated film of the year was Brave. What About Me? Some very good movies I just didn't have room for... The Dark Knight Rises Marvel's The Avengers Looper Top 5 Ranking my best picture nominees... 1. Argo 2. Skyfall 3. Zero Dark Thirty 4. Lincoln 5. Django Unchained Thanks for reading! Argo fuck yourself! |
