[size0]Summary: Learning how to convert MP4 to Final Cut Pro on Mac (Lion included). So you can freely use your MP4 videos from GoPro Hero3 Black on FCP, Final Cut Express etc.

Capturing a video 'of a car by the car' and capturing a video 'of a car from a car' are two very different things. For capturing a lap of a vehicle around a track from the outside of the vehicle, any good video recording device should suffice. However, the same cannot be said about a camera that needs to perform the same task from within the vehicle itself. For such a camera to be able to function in such a condition many restrictions come in place with regards to its size, its weight, its durability etc of that particular device. One such device that fits the bill for such a job is the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition.

GoPro Hero 3 Black Specs
* Field of View: 170° or 120°
* Storage: Up to 64GB microSD
* Frame Rates: 4K (16:9 and 17:9) @ 12, 12.5, 15fps; 2.7K (16:9 and 17:9) @ 30, 25, 24fps; 1440p (4:3) @ 48, 30, 25, 24fps; 1080p (16:9) @ 60, 50, 48, 25, 24fps; 960p (16:9) @ 100, 48fps; 720p (16:9) @ 120, 100, 60, 50fps; WVGA (16:9) @ 240fps

The GoPro HD records in MPEG-4 and outputs its files as .MP4 files (the container). Files are compressed using the h.264 codec. Since the MP4 codec is a final delivery codec it is not one you want to use for editing. So, for Final Cut Pro users, a third-party software for converting GoPro MP4 to a more editing-friendly format, such a Final Cut Pro's ProRes is needed.
