Edit Ikegami GFCAM MXF in FCP X, Premiere Pro and Avid MC
The NLEs like FCP, Adobe Premiere, Avid MC can't work Ikegami GFCAM HDS-V10 footage well. The easy workaround is to transcode Ikegami GFCAM MXF to FCP/Premiere/Avid natively supported format. Here is a quick-stare guide.
I am currently working on an Ikegami GFCAM Tapeless Camera HDS-V10. It employs MPEG-2 compression and MXF file format which is becoming de-facto standard, and achieves high versatility and high picture quality with full HD picture resolution of 1920x1080. I am curious to know if anyone has worked with video imported from Ikegmai GFCam HDS-V10 in FCP, Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer? Searching widely and further, I got tech supports on Ikegami GFCAM to FCP/Premiere/Avid MC workflow.
As mentioned above, the GFCAM Tapeless Camera HDS-V10 uses MXF file format. Generally, MXF files is not natively supported by NLEs including Final Cut Pro(FCP X/7/6), Adobe Premiere Pro(CC, CS6, CS5, CS4), Avid Media Composer; plug-ins or long-time rendering is always needed. To import Ikegami GFCAM MXF to FCP, Premiere and Avid MC smoothly, a necessary process is to use 3rd party softeware to transcode the MXF to a more edit-friendly format. For example convert Ikegami GFCAM MXF to ProRes for FCP as we know FCP worked better in this way than using the XDCAM natively in the sequence.
Here you can download and apply Ikegami MXF Converter for Mac to achieve the goal in a fast way. This Mac MXF Converter is the solid tool to help users transcode MXF to MOV, MPEG-2 or other formats on Mac OS X(Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite included). It offers the optimal preset profiles for Final Cut Pro 6/7 and FCP X, iMovie, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, FCE and more. And there is no need to worry about the quality loss.
