TABUK, Kalinga – The government’s response during typhoons Ondoy and Pepang was quick and immediate. Families affected by the storms said rescue teams and volunteers were on time when their houses were flooded and their shelters were damaged. Evacuated during the onslaught of the typhoons were residents of Isla, Laya, Balong, all located along the Chico River. Both the Kalinga Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) and Tabuk City Disaster Coordinating Councilheld emergency meetings to plan before the typhoon struck the province. Governor Floydelia Diasen, vice governor Jocel Baac, Sangguniang Panlalawigan and PDCC members remained alert and ready to respond to any emergency. Councilor Raul Albert said the local government of Tabuk allotted P300,000 for the victims. Relief goods were also distributed including those families affected by flooding in Liwan East, Rizal. A medical mission was conducted in Pinukpuk when a diarrhea outbreak hit Ammacian and Aciga. The local government units, Congressman’s Office, members of the Armed Forces attended to the patients. Engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways were mobilized to clear the landslides along the major road networks. With the help of private contractor equipment, the Tabuk-Bontoc road was cleared of landslides. The damaged Alliog Bridge at Nambaran, which connects Tabuk and Tuguegarao City was inspected for immediate repair.
