Tabuk City was recently bestowed the 2009 Galing Pook award for its peace program, by no other than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during meaningful ceremonial rites at the Malacañang Palace last Dec. 4. Tabuk City was cited for its Matagoan Peace Program that created the Matagoan Bodong Consultative Council composed of representatives from the sub-cultural communities as well as immigrants of Tabuk, to settle disputes through traditional means and at the same time made innovations and policies to outlaw tribal war practices. The city, under the leadership of mayor Camilo Lammawin Jr., is among the 14 LGUs that received the prestigious award conferred to those who have shown exemplary performances and initiatives in support to good governance. In her message during the conferment of the 2009 Galing Pook and Bagong Bayani Award, the President commended the awardees and expressed appreciation for those who had been heroes in their small ways. “Sana rin batiin natin yung iba pang mga tunay na bayani nitong bansa those who have gone unsung. These unsung heroes don’t demand the spotlight or expect red carpet treatment,” she said. The President stressed the value of self sacrifice in serving the people as shown by the Bagong Bayani awardees. “These men and women are motivated by the simple but profound values that drive this nation forward. Kapayapaan, pag-asa, charity, pagmamahal sa pamilya, hangad sa mabuting edukasyon at karapatan tungo sa magandang trabahong may disenteng sweldo na magbigigay sa kanila ng kakayahang pakainin ang pamilya at pag-aralin ang mga anak,” she said. “Among our heroes are also the dedicated public servants who reach higher year after year to raise our governance standards so that our government can better serve our citizens. Kabayanihan din ang maayos na pamamahala ng mga barangay, bayan, lungsod at probinsiya natin. Kaya sa ating mga Outstanding Local Government Executives sa mga Galing Pook, congratulations sa inyo,” she stated. The President said that despite the challenges, she is optimistic about the future “due in large part to the optimism and resilience of the Filipino people.” Source: http://baguiomidlandcourier.com.ph/kalinga.asp?mode=archives/2009/december/12-13-2009/kal1.txt |
