NCCA grants Kalinga projects; by Gigi Dumallig / PIA

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) granted over P1.9 million for the promotion of culture and arts here.

NCCA commissioner Domingo Bakilan said the amount will be used for the 14 approved projects for implementation this year.

Among the projects include the eight School of Living Traditions (SLT) projects, three cultural festivals, and one radio program.

The SLT list includes the Kalinga Rattan, Bamboo and Pandan Crafts (Phase 1) of Dacalan, Tanudan with P204,800 grant; SLT on Kalinga Rattan Crafts and Pandan Weaving (Phase 1) of Mabaca, Balbalan with P203,800 grant; SLT on Banao Performing Arts (Phase 1) of Balbalasang, Balbalan with P196,800allocation; SLT on Kalinga songs, dances and musical instruments (Phase 3) of Tabuk with P150,000 grant.

SLT on Kalinga Backstrap Weaving of Lay-asan, Tanudan got P58,600 while the SLT on Kalinga Pottery of Dupligan, Tanudan was allotted P58,600. The SLT on Kalinga Bamboo Musical Instruments Making of the Volunteer Probation Aide- Ullalim, Kalinga Chapter also got with P58,600 grant.

With its commitment to help promote cultural festivals around the country, the NCCA granted P62,300for the Laga Weaving Festival 2010 through the Department of Trade and Industry; P108,500 for the Matagoan Festival of Tabuk City; and P133,500 for the Barogway Festival 2010 of Mabaca, Tanudan.

The Lumin-awa Festival 2010 of Lubuagan, Kalinga was also approved with P50,000 grant while the Gabbok 2010 Festival of the Guilayon Cultural Community was also allotted with P75,000 funding.

In an effort to promote and preserve the original form of the cultural heritage of the Cordillera cultural communities of the Northern Luzon, the agency has granted P500,000 for the Cordillera Culture Hour radio program to be aired over DZRK, Radyo ng Bayan.

Bakilan said this will be a sequel of the NCCA Kalinga Cultural Hour over DZRK, Radyo ng Bayan, Tabuk which culminated last December.
