Ha ha! Kanak pay no sak-en makisabit. Anyway, we try to do mountain climbing as an annual activity with my officemates during summers however was not able to join them last Holy Week, just had other commitment and didn't like much the company :D . We normally sched. our trek in April & May ta medyo nawaya ti trabaho ken awan unay tudo. Perhaps if you are planning to do some climbing just say a word ta makita bareng maisingit schedule.

Haven't tried Mt. Guiting Guiting, where's that anyway? Did climb Battad in Banawe though.

PS- Just call me Paul coz I'm not a Knight. Wish you had other names other than tuwad( it's a bit vulgar  . And yes, we are also amateur climbers..

@ paul: Guiting Guiting or G2 is in Sibuyan Islands, Romblon, considered one of the hardest in the Philippines :-).

@ tuwad- Wow! that's really a high definition camera, nice view indeed. Just wonder what kind of vegetation grow in these parts? Kasla kalbo met and it does really appear to be steep and slippery. What's the altitude at the peak?

@Altitude- Wish could try Kibungan sometime. been there on official business but doesn't have the time to explore. kunada piman ag-stay kami ta ipasiar dakami but really don't have luxury of time. Adan sa kunada nga version sleeping beauty idiay??

I enjoy mountain climbing but I do it only during summer seasons. Last April 9-11, 2010 we climb Mt UGO Tinongdan Benguet, starting from Kayapa Nueva Vizcaya to Domolpos. On the second day was from domolpos to the summit of mt UGO then to sitio Lusod. on the last day was from Lusod to tinongdan.
The hike was sponsored by the municipality of Itogon and the province of Benguet.

@peter paul: the track is on the left side of the saw tooth ridge (as seen on the picture below), as nobody ever succeeded climbing the mountain using the knife's edge. this is only more or less halfway to the summit. :-)

I just hiked Mt. Cabuyao at Sto. Tomas yesterday for the first time and I had somewhat mixed feelings of what I observed.

As I hiker, I was expecting to walk on a foot trail but I was surprised to see that there was no foot trail but instead a road (about 8 km stretch up to the radar station) which is mostly paved with concrete (perhaps, this is because most of the land are private lots as evidenced by the “No Trespassing” signs). On the positive note, this kind of setting is very convenient and tourist friendly to every urban hiker where the possibility of getting lost or getting soiled is nil.

As I was alone, the surrounding is mostly quiet except for the incessant bird calls which abound the mountainsides (I’m not sure if these are endemic in the area or migratory). I’m also glad that I have not been assaulted with a strong smell of pesticides (the ones you smell every time you pass by mountain trail) considering that there are vegetable gardens dotting the area. I hope that the farmers here will be converted and encouraged to go organic and keep Mt. Cabuyao pesticide-free.

One thing that pissed me off, when I was going down, was when I noticed a “fresh” thrash consisting of plastic bags/wrappers and beer cans which was left behind by one group of hiker, one of them is evidently tipsy. I just wish that the community would impose some kind of regulations for hikers particularly in the observance of proper waste disposal so as to maintain cleanliness in the area.

In spite of all these negative obserbvation, I still want to go back in the area hopefully on a regular basis…

And hope that mates in this forum would also find the place worth visiting. . .

Pete, i´m sure when you go back you will find not only a plastic bags/wrappers of stuffs you have earlier seen but a bunch or pile of it, hehehe... Thanks for sharing us your experience bro. Na-imagine ko tuloy naka-kunot yong nuo mo, hahaha ;) ;) ;)

So guys, the next time you go for mountain climbing, bring some extra garbage bags and walis ting-ting, hehehe... not bad.
Meet you in Mount Cabuyao then.
