Tired and thirsty by the heat of the sun, we still kept pushing forward. Everyday is a good day of climbing mountain opportunity on one of my favorite mountain in La Trinidad- Mount Kalugong. Though it's not very high, it's worth climbing. It has this challenging vibe to it. IT seems to be calling onlookers to challenge its humble heights. This is my log on my three climbs with different groups of people.
The first time I climbed this mountain was when I was a college student at Benguet State University. My friends and I planned to go up there and have some fun. As far as I can remember, the climb was not that easy because we really have to find out way to the top and the way to return home. It was tough especially when we were on top of the mountain rocks. The edges of the mountain rocks are really sharp and difficult to stand on. My legs were shaking while I was on the edges. I just laughed and enjoyed the climb. While on top, we feasted on 1.5 Cocacola products, some chips and bread from the famous bakery of La Trinidad- Praise (I'm not advertising). It was a nice feeling while I was on the peak of the mountain together with my friends. From there, you can see the whole of the famous Strawberry Farm. I was with Malton, Rhenz, Mark, Tinito, Josie and Divina. They were one of a kind. We talked about some random
thoughts and enjoyed our time at the top. We ended the climb with fulfillment and happiness together with pabaon of pieces of guava that we got as we call it a day.
Tunay na Lalaki (Real Mean) as they call their group. They were namely Shervin (the boss), Glenn and Mike. I was their tour guide on this (my) second climb. Things changed after two years since I last climbed on this famous mountain. Amazingly, there was a house which was built on top. They have been developing the mountain and trying to make as a tourist spot. My churchmates were really excited to go at the mountain, so we set our climb very early in the morning. At first, I couldn't remember the way to go to the mountain. so I just asked details from the people around there. Eventually, we were able to find our path to start our climb. It was really fun having the guys around me. They were truly funny and cool. They even shared their pack lunch with me because I didn't bring my lunch because of the thought of finishing the climb before lunch. Indeed, they were really prepared for that hike. While we were on top of the mountain, we took some pictures together-wacky ones, spelunking pose, emo pose and any other kind of crazy poses. We also have some chit-chats and making plans on our next climb. As we ended our climb, they also called my one of the TNL. (so I'm a Real Men)
Do you think foreigners would not be interested in climbing a very short mountain. That was what I thought but I was wrong when I made my third climb with some of my student friends. I was with a Korean guy (Lawrence) and three Japanese guys (Yuji, Chris and Hiro). It was the time when I was well-prepared for the hike. For the second time, I became a tourist guide again for these foreigners. History repeats itself, I couldn't remember the way to the mountain just like on my second climb. again, so asked information from the people around. During the climb, it was exciting and wonderful. We got lost at some point because of the tiger grass that was not cut. In fact, we couldn't see some mountain trails but we could find our way to the top after all. We shared some stories. We roamed around and enjoyed the moments. Of course, taking pictures and eating foods was not missed at this moment. I was really glad that I climbed this mountain again and I am looking forward with my fourth one together with that somebody who is willing to share his/her time with me as we climb the peak of adventure.
No matter how high or short and hard to climb a mountain, what makes it more fun reaching at the top of the mountain is the moment with the people whom I'm climbing with...
