MELCHIOT IS NEW LATICS SKIPPER

Wigan have named summer signing Mario Melchiot as their new captain.

The 30-year-old former Chelsea full-back joined the Latics from French club Rennes last month and has already skippered the side in their opening two pre-season friendlies.

Manager Chris Hutchings told the club´s official website, www.wiganlatics.co.uk: "I´m blessed with many leaders in my squad but I have decided Mario is going to be my skipper this season."

Very good pundit actually. He did ACN for the BBC and was excellent, hopefully he'll do some more high profile stuff
