Manchester United are shock rivals for Chelsea in the battle for Sevilla star wing-back Daniel Alves.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido revealed yesterday that they had rejected two offers in the last week from Chelsea for the Brazil international.

The Sunday Express says United are now in the frame for £20 million-rated Dani Alves.

..........................

:tosser: im sure they want to just put the price up, then say we have spent loads.

Daniel Alves will be pulled out of Sevilla's squad to face AEK Athens in tomorrow's Champions League qualifier as Chelsea try to sign the &20m-rated Brazil right back in time for Sunday's trip to Liverpool. Alves said: 'The decision to play or not is mine. It's not something I have to think about very much.'

DANI ALVES has threatened to go on strike at Seville to force a move to Chelsea.

The Brazilian right-back revealed he will refuse to play in tomorrow's Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens.

Alves, 24, is desperate to move to Stamford Bridge and fears his proposed switch will collapse if he is cup-tied for Europe.

Seville president Jose Maria Del Nido claims he has already turned down a bid of £24million — and Alves is ready to take action.

Alves said: “The decision to play or not on Wednesday is mine — and I don’t have to think very hard about it because if I do then a lot of doors will close for me.

“I want to grow as a player and if I have to do that at a new club then so be it.”

Alves’ stance has set him on collision course with Seville as boss Juande Ramos insists he plans to keep picking the ace. Ramos said: “As long as he is part of the team I will use him.”

At first i didnt mind weather we went out and got this guy but now the more and more i see the price go up the more i say fuck it forget him. He aint all that great defensively anyways he is by far better going forward then he is defending i think we should leave it and not be held ransom and pay stupid money for a player who wont improve as that much defensivley anyways.

I say we just let the special one work his magic with glen and the more games he plays the better he will get and the more he will learn how we want him to play i also belive give it another year or two and he will become a right footed cashley. Afterall he started off piss poor defensivley and soon got a lot better and i feel the same will happen with glen.

Thats Alves' problem. He is crap defensively so no decent side would play him at RB and he isnt what you would call a normal winger. He is a wing back but so few sides play 3-5-2 then he will struggle to get a bigger club than Sevilla. I certainly wouldnt want him as RB

Reports emanating from Spain have claimed Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Daniel Alves following extensive negotiations with Sevilla.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has been in Madrid this week, in order to hold talks with Sevilla vice-president Jose Maria Cruz and their director of sport Ramon Rodriquez Monchi.

It has been reported in Spain that the two clubs have now concurred on a fee of around 32 million euros (25million).

Increased bid

Chelsea had hoped to land the talented Brazilian for around 20million but if reports are to be believed, Sevilla have held out for, and received, a more attractive offer.

Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to add a new right-back to his playing ranks, and it does now look as though his wish has been granted with the noticeable capture of Alves.

Spanish newspaper AS have claimed: "Chelsea general manager Peter Kenyon and Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido came to an agreement Tuesday evening and are awaiting the green light from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich."

20 million is a bit steep for a RB who doesnt really fit into the Jose player mould

£25m for a RB who cant defend? Silly. Presumably you'll play him RW.

maybe jose wants him to fill in all over the place when people are not able to play for one reason or another.

I dont know much about him tbh.

But I do know Glen was crap the other day, he needs to go some to improve on that game.

The issue is that he has no positional sense and has been given a free role to wander at Sevilla. Does it very well, but I think he will struggle to play your tight deep defensive line.

Chelsea have denied reaching an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of right back Daniel Alves.

Reports in Spain on Tuesday night claimed a £24 million transfer had been signed, sealed and delivered but the Premier League club deny this is the case.

The Blues make no secret of their interest in landing Alves, whose future appeared to be resolved after he was omitted from Sevilla’s squad for a Champions League qualifier this week.

However Chelsea deny that a deal is immediately in the offing, with Peter Kenyon still continuing discussions with his Sevilla counterparts.

“Contrary to reports from Spain, Chelsea Football Club has not reached an agreement for the transfer of Daniel Alves from Sevilla,” read a statement on Chelsea’s official website.

“Chelsea FC has confirmed its interest in the player to the club but as yet there is no agreement.”

The club are working hard to secure its future as well as present and on Wednesday tied up a new four-year deal for Scott Sinclair.

The 18-year-old former Bristol Rovers player spent last season on loan at Plymouth but is part of Jose Mourinho's first team squad for this campaign.

Roman no to £24.5m Alves tag
By ERIC BEAUCHAMP
August 16, 2007

JOSE MOURINHO was left reeling last night after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich plunged his £24.5million bid for Seville defender Dani Alves into crisis.

Blues boss Mourinho believed he had bagged his No 1 summer target after chief executive Peter Kenyon struck a deal following talks in Madrid.

But Kenyon was left humiliated when billionaire Abramovich refused to sanction that amount of money for the right-back.

Kenyon was told the terms were unacceptable and to renegotiate.

Alves’ agent Geronimo Suarez is convinced the transfer can be salvaged.

He said: “We are 80-90 per cent confident that we can close the agreement.

“Alves has said he is 100 per cent determined to go to Chelsea.

“He asked for Seville to close the agreement as soon as possible.”

Another press article suggests Roman doesn't want to pay over £17m

Roman is right on this one as Alves price has doubled in the last year and everyone agrees Alves has trouble with the defensive side to 24 million is very steep for a full back you cant defend

Chelsea have underlined their determination to sign Daniel Alves by offering to provide the Brazil defender with protective security during what they hope will be his final days in Seville. Alves was badly shaken by the hostile reception he received from supporters at training yesterday after opting out of Seville’s 2-0 Champions League qualifying win over AEK Athens on Wednesday and is understood to fear for his safety.

Alves antagonised Seville’s passionate fans by organising a press conference at which he pleaded to be allowed to leave, before refusing to play for the club in the Champions League. The 22-year-old has rejected Chelsea’s offer for fear of inflaming the situation further, resolving to keep his head down and continue training as normal in the hope that a deal can be reached between the two clubs as soon as possible.

Cicinho lined up to replace Alves
Sevilla are considering signing Real Madrid right-back Cicinho as a replacement for Chelsea-bound defender Daniel Alves.

Despite Sevilla turning down an offer from Chelsea on Thursday for the transfer of Brazilian right-back Alves, the player's future remains up in the air.

The Andalusian club have already expressed an interest in 27-year-old Brazilian Cicinho, who is seen as the ideal candidate to replace Alves.

Cicinho, who has been placed on Madrid's transfer list, has revealed he would welcome a move to Sevilla although he is also considering an offer from Roma.

"If Real Madrid and Sevilla reach an agreement that satisfies both sides, it would be perfect," said Cicinho.

"Right now I am still a Real Madrid player and I awaiting what my agent and Real Madrid sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic decide.

"It's true that I have several offers, Roma have called me and it is a club that I like, just as Sevilla is."
