Mourinho confirmed he has been priced out of the market and will not pursue Daniel Alves after Sevilla upped the asking price for their right back to £27million.
Chelsea instead opted to pay £3.7m for 31-year-old Belletti from Barcelona.

Mourinho: "I have closed the door of my dressing room and that's very important to me. My squad is completely closed. I know the market is open until the 31st —but not for us. We have the signings we fought for. We have the balance in the squad we need for the season.

"I have 27 in my squad and I will be happy to go down to 26. We have a very balanced squad, with two players in each position, but at the moment in the right back position we have more than two with Belletti, Johnson, (Paulo) Ferreira and (Lassana) Diarra, who is 50 per cent right back.

"Every player likes to play and not just be part of the squad. If a club show a real interest in one of our players and our player shows an interest in leaving for a better situation, we can be open for that."

Glenn Johnson has become the third choice right-back at Chelsea following the arrival of Juliano Belletti, and Jose Mourinho has openly indicated that he would be happy to offload a right-back.

With Paolo Ferreira set to stay on, it is Johnson who is closer to an exit, and Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has been linked with a move.

Portsmouth were interested in bringing him back to the club earlier, but seem to have gone cold, and a 2 million deal could be struck between Chelsea and Newcastle. The two have already done business over Geremi this year.

Glen Johnson has joined Portsmouth from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

The ex-West Ham defender has signed a four-year deal at Fratton Park after agreeing the terms of a transfer thought to be worth around £4million to the London club.

Johnson, 23, returns to the south coast after spending last season on loan with Pompey.

After emerging as a promising talent with the Hammers, Johnson became one of the first Chelsea buys following Roman Abramovich's takeover when he moved across the capital for £6million in the summer of 2003.

He failed to live up to his price tag, however, and found himself marginalised when Jose Mourinho arrived as manager a year later.

As a result he has slipped out of the England reckoning, but he hopes to follow in the footsteps of new team-mates Sol Campbell and David James by playing his way back into Steve McClaren's team.

"It's great for Sol Campbell and David James to get back in the England squad, obviously they deserve it," he told the club's official website.

"I just want to play as many games as I can here and see what happens."

He added: "It's a fantastic move for me. "Portsmouth's a fantastic club with a lot of nice people. I learnt that when I was here last season.

"So it was an easy decision to make. It feels like I've never been away.

"The fact that I played here last season was a massive factor in my decision - I knew what the club was like.

"Harry Redknapp was a massive factor, too.

"I had to think about the move a bit, it's nice to have interest from other clubs.

"But deep down I knew where I wanted to go, especially after the success we had last season, when I enjoyed it here."
