There is switch in formation to adjust to the absence of Frank Lampard with Claude Makelele coming in for his first start of the season

The team will line-up in a 4-3-3 formation and there are full debuts for Juliano Belletti and Alex at the back.

Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi join Makelele in the middle with Didier Drogba flanked by Shaun Wright-Phillips and Florent Malouda up front.

Aston Villa bring new signing Zat Knight into their defence. Stiliyan Petrov has been dropped suggesting Gabriel Agbonlahor will move to left with Luke Moore coming in alongside John Carew in attack.

The other signing this week, Curtis Davies, does not feature.

Chelsea will line-up in a 4-3-3 formation as follows:

1 Petr Cech
35 Juliano Belletti
33 Alex
26 John Terry ©
3 Ashley Cole
5 Michael Essien
4 Claude Makelele
12 John Mikel Obi
24 Shaun Wright-Phillips
15 Didier Drogba
15 Florent Malouda

Substitutes: 23 Carlo Cudicini, 22 Tal Ben-Haim, 10 Joe Cole, 14 Claudio Pizarro, 21 Salomon Kalou.

Aston Villa are expected to line-up in the following 4-4-2 formation:

Carson; Laursen, Knight, Mellberg, Bouma; Agbonlahor, Reo-Coker, Barry ©, Young; Moore, Carew.

Subs: Taylor, Gardner, Petrov, Maloney, Harewood.

The referee is Mark Clattenburg. .

How daft. I don't rate Pizarro and Kalou isn't much of a goal threat imo. this should be Sheva's season.

Shame about the result today
