"TORRES KEEN TO HELP SPAIN'S QUEST

Spain striker Fernando Torres insists the collective good is more important than individual achievement ahead of Spain's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Latvia on Wednesday night.

Torres was hauled off after 57 minutes of Saturday's 1-1 draw in Iceland, with his replacement Andres Iniesta netting a late equaliser.

The Liverpool star is adamant he was happy with coach Luis Aragones' decision as it paved the way for Spain to grab a vital point in Reykjavik.

He said: "The common objective is to be at Euro 2008.

"It was the decision of the coach. And in the end Iniesta got the goal which got us a point.

"The squad is more important than any player."

Torres is set to start the midweek clash in Oviedo and expects a much improved display from the Spanish, who find themselves level with second-placed Northern Ireland in Group F but three points behind pool leaders Sweden.

"The team knows how it must play," he added.

"It is necessary to keep the ball and get an early goal to avoid any problems."
