Hyypia, who has found himself deputising more than most in recent times, was singled out for particular praise.

Not usually one to highlight individuals, Benitez is clearly impressed with the manner the giant Finn has responded when called upon, and is now hinting rumours this campaign will be Hyypia’s Anfield swansong could be ill-founded.

“Because of the contract situation, I lot of people think this will be Sami’s final season here, but that may not be the case,” said Benitez.

“For me, he could play for many more years at this level because he is in good condition physically and mentally. Sami is a really good professional and although now is not the time to talk about what will happen in the future, I’m sure we will talk about this more later in the season. I’m really happy with Sami, which is why I told him I wanted him to stay with us.”

Always business,never personal.
The past few performances have seen the Sami of old return and I couldn't be happier.
I think he realise's that this is his last hoorah for Liverpool FC and he wants to go out on a high.
