"DIRK: WE CAN WIN BOTH Jimmy Rice in Porto 17 September 2007 Liverpool have a squad capable of conquering England AND Europe this season, according to striker Dirk Kuyt. Asked at a pre-Porto press conference whether the Reds will prioritise the Premier League or European Cup this year, Kuyt responded: "We prefer to win them both! I think we have a good enough squad for this but it's too early to say. We just have to win games. "It was really disappointing not to win in the final last time but this is a new season. We have a better squad and we know we can do well. "I think it will be difficult to be in the final again but not impossible. We just have to work hard, win the games and see what happens." The Dutchman believes it is imperative he and his teammates get off to a good start on Tuesday night against a side many predict will progress to the second round. "It's a very important game. Porto have a really good team. We saw them in the Rotterdam Tournament in pre-season. They won that, so we know they are good. We must play well." Kuyt, who has started four out of seven games this season, also revealed how he is relishing the competition for places up front. "At the end of the day, if you want to win trophies you need four really good strikers. Liverpool are a big club and you always have to fight for your place," the 27-year-old added. "It brings the best out of you because they are your rivals, but also your teammates. It always makes you better playing with good players." Both? All of it I say!!!!! |
