"Pennant Unrepentant After Red Card Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez had no complaints with the officials after they decided to show Jermainemai Pennant a second yellow card during the Champions League game in Porto on Tuesday. The Spaniard expressed the hope that Pennant would learn from the incident. But i seems that is a forlorn hope... Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant is adamant that his sending off during the 1-1 draw with Poro was undeserved. Reds manager Rafael Benitez rebuked Pennant for committing an unnecessary foul on Porto's left-back Jorge Fucile and incurring a second yellow card and a one-match suspension for Liverpool's next group game at home to Marseille. There may be further punishment for Pennant from Uefa if the referee, Lubos Michel, mentions the player's delayed departure from the pitch in his official match report. But the player is unrepentant. He said: "I didn't think it was the right decision to send me off. "It wasn't a yellow card because it wasn't a serious foul, and I didn't touch the Porto player anyway. He made a meal of it, so it was way too harsh. The whistling from the crowd influences the referee and makes his decision easier, probably. "The referees are harsher in Europe and I was baffled by him all night. I definitely have to learn from the fact there is a difference in how the referees approach games in Europe." Sorry JP but you were already on a yellow and you knew what kind of Ref we had yet you STILL made a rash challenge that was always gonna result in another booking. You're in the wrong lad, just admit it. |

Hang em first. Question em later.

It wasn't just one foul by JP it was a string of fouls and I wouldn't be suprised if he gave more then 10 free kicks away all game. |

To be fair to the lad, i didnt think it was bookable either, and to say it was for consistant fouling is the only explanation in terms of the game, but even then they werent fouls, European Football has become ridiculously non-contact, but like Papa said, he should have known the ref was just looking for an excuse, anyone watching the game could see he was gonna get sent off after about 20 mins |

I thought he was always going to go. The Porto players were beginning to make a meal out of every challenge he made and were clearly trying to get him sent off and saw him as easy prey. He deserved to go on the basis of persistent fouling, I don't accept it was the ref looking for any excuse it was more Pennant had committed about 75% of the "fouls" up till then. The reaction of the player he slid in on done him no favours but Pennant should definitly learn that there are going to be days like this, especially against teams like Porto. Personally I felt Rafa should have taken him off once Pennant came on and persisted with going to ground. |

i am thinking the same as you here. if i were the ref it wouldn't have been a yellow card. neither would most of the free kicks in the match have been free kicks. |

Remember when "The Beast" kept getting the ball nicked off him and he was always expecting the ref to blow because he'd actually been physically touched by another player? |
