"KUYT TAKES HEART FROM REDS RESILIENCE Jimmy Rice 20 September 2007 Dirk Kuyt believes the resilience he and his teammates displayed to get a point in Porto will stand the Reds in good stead in their quest for silverware this season. The Dutchman admits the performance wasn't great but claims much can be taken from the fact defeat was avoided. He said: "It was an unbelievably strange game and without a doubt our worst performance of the season so far, in the first half especially. After that we had to keep going and the equaliser helped us. The second half was better. "We have so much quality in our team that we will always fight in any situation, even if we have only 10 men as we did against Porto. "This is important, but we also know you need more than this if you're going to win trophies. If we are going to win the Premier League or Champions League, all of us know we will have to play much better than in the last game, hopefully starting against Birmingham on Saturday. "What's important is to keep our unbeaten record for as long as possible, because this gives everyone a lot of confidence. "We still haven't played our best football this season, but if we continue to work as hard as we have we know we'll get better because we have a really good team. It will improve." |
