HOBBS TO FACE READING Paul Hassall 08 December 2007 Jack Hobbs will make his first start in the Premier League as Liverpool go in search of a sixth straight win in today's evening kick-off at the Madejski Stadium. The 19-year-old will partner Jamie Carragher at the heart of the Reds' defence as Rafa Benitez makes four changes from the side that overwhelmed Bolton last time out. Fernando Torres and Peter Crouch will continue to lead the line while there also places in the starting XI for Momo Sissoko, Andriy Voronin and Javier Mascherano. The Reds team in full: Reina, Arbeloa, Riise, Hobbs, Carragher, Gerrard, Mascherano, Sissoko, Voronin, Torres, Crouch. Subs: Itandje, Hyypia, Kewell, Kuyt, Babel |

I'm surprised he risk Carra - one more yellow card and he is out of the Mancs game. |

Me too, I thought Hobbs would replace Carragher rather than Hyypia. Looks like 4-3-3 again though and Arbeloa and Riise are going to have to work hard to provide the width. |

That what I thought as soon as it happened! Still it was NEVER a penalty but TBH after the way we played we deserved nothing from that and some of Rafa's decisions.....well he just lost the plot! I know it had to happen at some time and we'll all have forgotten about it if we win our next 2 games but for us to play like that after the way we've been playing for the last few weeks!!?! I really do question that Rafa was focussing only on that game before looking to Tuesday, seriously he seemed to be more bothered about Marseille than trying to get back into the game with some of his decisions tonight! Needless to say I am not happy at all, crap performance and we got what we deserved although they got more than they deserved as they were poor, just not as bad as us on the night! |

Not sure if he lost the plot. Torres got a knock, so he took him off, same with Stevie and then, once we'd already lost, he took Carra off rather than risk him getting a yellow. We hit the woodwork 2 or 3 times, should have had 2 pens, shouldn't have had the one against us. At least our bad luck came today and not on Tuesday or Sunday. |

in his post match conference he said: "At 3-1 (down), you have to protect your good players." i read that and thought "really????". i would think that at 3-1 down (to Reading) and with over 20 minutes left to be played, you would do your best to get back into the game and not throw in the towel. i know you have an important game on tuesday, and another one next sunday, but i was really surprised to see benitez admitting to having basically given up on a result with over 20 minutes left. |

Sometimes you just have to accept it's just not your day. For me today it just wasn't meant to be. A combination of referee decisions and poor finishing ensured that, if Torres scores in that first chance we'd have won |

Maybe not lost the plot but there were a few 'interesting' decisions and his comment he basically accepted defeat with 20 minutes left isn't exactly what I wanted to hear but after a night's sleep I have calmed down and as had been said it just wasn't our day I guess and we have to move on. Not sure whether both were pens though, the first one I think was not sure on the second one though. All I know for certain is that their's definitely wasn't! Hopefully as I said last night we'll have forgotten all about it come next Monday with 2 important wins under our belt! |
