I think we might lose this one 2-0 due to the fact that he's going to play the reserves.
I feel a bit sorry for those people who have paid good money to go all the way to Italy to watch the team but at the same time fully understand why Ferguson is doing this with the Liverpool game coming up.

I think it's a given that Pique will start, maybe Eagles too, but I don't think Fergie will put that much of a weakened side out, given that it's Roma and they need a result (don't they?)

Edit: just checked up on it, no they don't need a result :lmao:

Hope they do better against Totti than they did against Michael Mifsud :ale:

Roma have already finished 2nd in the group whatever the result on Wednesday.

I think both teams will field weakened sides with plenty of young players. Roma may put out a slightly stronger side than us because they will still want some form of victory to banish the memory of their 7-1 defeat last season.

I think Saha and Dong will start up front for us. Nani, Fletcher and Eagles should all get a game. In defence Simpson, Pique and Evans will probably play and it'll be interesting to see who starts at left-back (perhaps Simpson or O'Shea?)

Wayne Rooney will captain United in the Champions league clash with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night.

Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson has taken a young squad to Roma for the meaningless final Group F match.

Wes Brown and Michael Carrick are the only other players besides Rooney who started against Derby County on Saturday.

Rooney has been handed the captaincy, after much persistence from the 22-year-old.

"He has been pestering me for quite a while now, so I have given in," said Sir Alex.

United from: Kuszczak, Heaton, Brown, Eckersley, O'Shea, Pique, Evans, Simpson, Lee, Chester, Cleverley, Hewson, Nani, Eagles, Carrick, Fletcher, Dong, Brandy, Saha, Rooney.

Looks like Dong can't even get a start in a meaningless game! An interesting decision to play Rooney in this game. Obviously the doom mongers will be asking 'what if he gets injured?' but I'd counter that with 'what if he scores, plays a blinder and is back in form for the trip to Anfield?'

It's good to see Brandy in the squad - I've been following his progress since our youth teams cup run last season and really like the look of him.

I'd agree with that team, but maybe Saha will start as him and Rooney are the two most obvious players who are desperate for games

I didn't see the game last night as I was working but I'm delighted with the result considering Fergie played a second string team last night.
Well done Pique on the goal as well :redscarf:

Goal scoring machine that lad :wink2:

2 Champions League starts and 2 goals!

Roma were unlucky because they hit the woodwork a couple of times but I think we deserved the draw.

Wish Utd had stuffed them tbh, embarrass them on their own ground this time.

Good result though considering :ale:
