The financial implications of the world credit crash has decimated the futuristic plans for the new stadium. The credit crash has hit the possible loan that was needed for the new stadium and a revised plan for the stadium is supposedly being considerd. Also the burden of the loan that was to be H/Gs could now be passed on to the club leaving us with excessive debt.
It has been reported in several newspapers today that Rafa will have little or no money to spend in January. How that affects the future of Masher who knows.
The reality of all this should not affect the players on the pitch but what could be is the future of Rafa. If the reality of the fiancial situation does not sit well with Rafa and he has to trim the squad to keep Masher then be prepared for further speculation.

So B man do you think that the submitted plans and the artist impressions that have been released will be the reality in Stanley Park?

So B man do you think that the submitted plans and the artist impressions that have been released will be the reality in Stanley Park?

Well this is Parry's statement:

Quote:

“'We remain absolutely committed to the building of a new stadium which will improve on the original design inherited by Tom Hicks and George Gillett when they came into the club.

“It will have a capacity of around 70,000, be higher quality and have a substantially increased Kop which will form the centrepiece of the new plans.

“Ever since the original designs were unveiled, we have been continuously revising and refining with the intention of delivering the best possible solution to our future needs.

“The situation in the credit markets has not affected our design, programme, or implementation of building our new stadium.

“The priority has always been to build a winning team on the pitch and everything else we do is geared towards that.”

Now there's a lot of hoo-haaing in this statement I admit. It's poorly worded when a straightforward "We are committed to building the new stadium as revealed earlier in the year" would have sufficed.

Whether the new design will be followed to the letter is now obviously unclear. But I imagine it will still retain the aesthetic value of the redesign, ie, the asymmetrical design, the large glazed areas, and the oversized, theater-esque Kop.

My main points of concern are Parry referring to a commitment to build A new stadium, rather then THE new stadium, and the fact that the maximum capacity appears to have fallen from 76,000 to 70,000, but this might just be confusion thrown up by a poorly worded statement.

For all we know the 60k seater might have been redesigned to be upgradeable in stages; from 60k to 70k to 76k. It's the seemingly deliberate vagueness in the statement I find unsettling.
