I've put the obvious candidates in the list above. For me, the man of the match has to be Anderson. He kept Liverpool's most dangerous threat quiet for the majority of the game and threatened himself with a mazy run when he took on about three of their players. I can't wait to see what this guy will be like when in a couple of years if he's already this good |

Can't argue with that denis. Ferdinand was immense at the back but for Anderson to dominate Gerrard and Mascherano at such a young age makes me think he is going to be a very special player. |

I went for Ferdinand. Seen the 2nd half first (live) then seen the first half on repeat later. Don't know if that makes any difference. |

Anderson > Rio > Evra Evra really hasn't had that much of a mention but he was immense yesterday, he seems to be getting better at reading the game and cutting out threats earlier, plus his attacking threat is obvious, best Left back in the league by a mile imho, and getting better by the week. Rio, big-game player plus we've come to expect a good performance really, but very impressive "thumb" Anderson, 19 years old, Brazilian, new to the league and country, one of the biggest and most passionate games of the season. 'Nuff said :ale: |

Anderson saw off the threat of Steven Gerrard at Anfield and then did the same to Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand to be voted ManUtd.com's Man of the Match. The Brazilian midfielder was outstanding on Sunday alongside Owen Hargreaves. And it speaks volumes of how influential the 19-year-old was that he his central midfield partner and, especially Ferdinand, who was a colossal figure at the back for the Reds. Anderson showed strength on the ball, maturity beyond his tender years, discpline in his positional play and excellent execution in his passing. It certainly caught the eye of ManUtd.com readers. A commanding 35 per cent of voters said Anderson was the star player in the 1-0 win. Hargreaves finished second with 21 per cent of the votes, while Rio came in with 17 per cent in third place. United's goalscorer Carlos Tevez was fourth (11 per cent), narrowly ahead of Patrice Evra (10 per cent). Aside from individual praise, victory would not have been possible had the team not worked so efficiently together. From Rooney's tireless work in attack to Nemanja Vidic's defensive dominance, the vital win at Anfield was largely a result of the Reds' team ethic. |

not sure how anderson won it tbh, i barely noticed him - utd were on the backfoot most of the game and i dont think anderson created much coming forward rio by a mile for me - taken me a long time to realise he is the best defender in the country |

It was his ball retention that impressed me most - he was often under severe pressure from Gerrard and/or Mascherano and fought off challenge after challenge to keep hold of the ball. His short and long passing were both excellent (I can't remember him giving the ball away) and that burst through the midfield past 2/3 Liverpool players before Gerrard ended his run was a joy to watch. |

Believe it or not we watched the game. I'm not as lucky getting away tickets as I used to be so we can't all go to whatever match we want. Anderson played his best game in a United shirt at the weekend and kept Gerrard quiet for the most part which is some feat in itself (That's a back handed compliment by the way :wink2: ) Unfortunately I get the impression that you only concentrate on the performances (or lack of) of your own players so don't notice the contributions of the opposing team. |

Anderson topped the poll for MOTM on manutd.com with 35% of the vote so it's not just us on here. I didn't get down to Anfield because I'm not a United season ticket holder and away tickets for Liverpool are like gold dust so there was no chance of me getting one. In fact, I've only ever been to 2 away games. I watched the game on Sky, who gave MOTM to Rio Ferdinand, but whilst he played very well I just can't help but admire Anderson. Opposition fans seem to focus on the fact that we've bought him as a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes so think he should be getting into the penalty area, setting up and scoring goals. However, his workrate, tackling, ball retention and passing ability is fantastic for such a young player. Gerrard and Mascherano had a real midfield battle on their hands and I thought Anderson dominated them. |

didnt really see anderson getting forward enough to dominate gerrard to be fair. imo he played as a third centre back. as for mascher he did ok but no brilliant. andersons an ok player dont get me wrong but there were certainly better players out there than him. not many granted as most were poor our lot included :wink2: |

Haven't read a paper, also watched the match without commentary so was able to focus on the players, but thanks for the excellent and well thought out opinion "thumb" What is it about opposing fans that they don't rate him? mind you Ronaldo has been a 'one-trick pony' for the past 4 years  |
