We have 63 points left to play for and currently have 33, so that's a maximum of 96. When you consider we still have Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea all to play away it doesn't look good on the title front.

A 2nd place finish is, realistically, our best bet imo.

Which really wouldn't be too bad as I reckon it would strengthen Rafa's hand in the transfer market. Also, I don't know which season UEFA plan to bring in the 3rd place auto-qualifying for the CL but if we can avoid the qualifiers by finishing 2nd this year I'll happily take it.

There are too many variables for each team to say how many points each will get at the end of the season.Whilst it is still mathamaticaly possible then I still believe we can win it.

I'll have to disagree. That's more the voice of setting yourself up for a major fall. You can't honestly expect our rivals' form to take the kind of nosedive it would need to allow us to take control of this race?

Of course it is mathematically possible but is it PROBABLE? Have you seen anything in our first 17 games to suggest we can stitch together the kind of phenomenal form necessary to storm back from 10 points behind and win this title?

Fact is we have not displayed the kind of form necessary to bridge the gap between possible and probable. And our task is made more difficult by the fact our rivals have shown little, if any, of the form that would open the door for us.

For example, Chelsea are having a crud season by their recent standards and have done about as much as they could to gift us a top four place, but they're still ahead of us. Our cause is not helped by our form away from home at our rivals' grounds - how many goals have we scored at Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea in recent seasons?

I'm not trying to be a doom merchant here, I'm just being pragmatic. We've made some progress this year by turning defeats into draws, and I think if we can ride our luck 2nd is a realistic probability. Realistically though, I think we're looking at a strong 3rd and a need to focus on the FAC and/or CL.

.."You can't honestly expect our rivals' form to take the kind of nosedive it would need to allow us to take control of this race?"

no i do not expect just HOPE, like i have for the pass 17 years.

It is possible to win but it really means others must throw the title away which has been done as well so hopefully will happen again

There's a difference between a dip and a full blown implosion.

What a pity we dipped the same time they did - and we dipped further. :blush2:

If we were five points behind with a game in hand I'd agree wholeheartedly. IMO however the only club that has thrown away this kind of league position is Newcastle a decade or so ago. As far as I'm concerned Utd or Arsenal are virtually incapable of becoming that god-awful.

for what its worth i'm not expecting man utd to romp home, i just think their experience and know how gives them the edge

plus i think arsenal will struggle without toure, as senderos and djorou seem far inferior replacements imo - and if man utd sneak ahead the pressure of playing catch up might be too much for the kids
