Would Mascherano be Liverpool's most important signing of the new year? Anyone know what the price is? |

Widely touted as £17m in the press, though it's impossible to know how accurate that is. I hate the whole 3rd party ownership thing, there's too many competing agendas for it to work well for us as a club - that guy will basically pimp Mascher out all over the world to the highest bidder. If we sell Momo for £8m or so (some people still rate him, incredibly), it'll make it more stomachable, but sadly that's the going rate for somebody like Mascher - look at what Hargreaves cost. Personally I think he's good, but not that good. If it was a choice between him and somebody up front of Torres class or similar, it'd be the latter I'd want to go for. We have cover in central midfield if Mascherano doesn't end up signing. We only have one truly world class striker though. Goals win games. |

We need him. It goes beyond his contribution to the team and what he's actually worth. Not signing Masch sends out all the wrong signals at a time when we're desperately looking for solidity. It's the wrong message to our rivals, and most definitely the wrong message to our fans. The silence on this issue coming out of Anfield is deafening. Amazing how the new owners and Rick Parry will bluster about transfers and how important the club is and then when it comes to a crunch issue like this we don't hear a blasted thing. I hope Masch is on the phone to his agent, his owners, whoever the f*ck is in charge of him, pleading over the asking price. If he wants to stay that badly he shouldn't be complaining about the club not stumping up for him but with the nice gents who own his footballing soul. Considering the hassle he cost us just to bring him in I reckon he owes us that much, performances on the pitch nonwithstanding. |

According to our beloved press, his agent is already beating down the doors of any likely suitors :humph: |

I would love it, absolutely love it, if he came to us. Leaving Kevin Keegan mode, I think it'd be hilarious. I don't think he's that outstanding - good player but not amazing. He'd never go to another club in England j'ai peur. |

If you dont pay the 17m asking price somebody else will, i think he would be suited to Serie A aswell and Inter have plenty of Argies and are looking for a new Midfielder |

That's the problem mate. It's not like we can haggle over the price. There's too many other interested parties who'll only be too happy to stump up the cash. It's the going rate, look at Carrick and Hargreaves. |

That is the going rate and the MSI have you over a barrel either pay for him or lose him no negotiating |

Its not as though Rafa ,Rick Parry and the H/G have not known this was going to happen. Surley provision should have been made for the possibility that we would buy him after 18 months. Its bad planning by Liverpool , Masher has been effectivley in the shop window for 18 months so that clubs can now come in for him. The financial situation at the club has changed and now money is tight. To get Masher other players must go and is any player worth that. If Masher wanted to stay he would find a way to stay. He like Tevez is an active participant in trying to get an over inflated price for the 3rd party and the player. Our priorities for any new players must be directed towards a central defender and strikers or wingers. |

Mascherano: I want to join Tevez at Manchester United On loan Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano admits he wants to join his former teammate at Manchester United with a permanent move to Liverpool unlikely to occur as the American owners are baulking over the £17m price tag set by MSI. Mascherano - A target for United, Juventus and Real Madrid - wants to play alongside countryman Carlos Tevez once again after their adventures at Corinthians and West Ham. The holding midfielder, rated at £17million, said: "I would like a new adventure in England because as each day passes it is looking more and more unlikely that I could remain at Liverpool. “It’s simple,” Mascherano said. “With the time that has passed, it will now be more difficult for me to stay here because I need to do something about my future. It is a really difficult situation because I have been talking a lot about how I want to stay here, but it doesn’t depend on me. I have done everything to stay but the owners have to decide if they want to buy.” Manchester United boss Ferguson has always been an admirer of Mascherano and considered signing him last summer, and it is being rumoured that he will willing to pay the asking price to land him now. Mascherano added, "I would be happy to play for any of the other big clubs in England if Liverpool do not sign me permanently, but to play alongside Carlitos as well as people like Rooney, Scholes and Ronaldo would be my biggest dream of all." We dont need him TBH and not for 17m |

So much for "I could never play for another Prem club after Liverpool helped me." :suicide: I said this on another board: he goes where his owners tell him to go, end of. Whoever stumps up the asking price. I admit it's paper talk but fact is if Utd get him it will show the gulf in ambition between the clubs and our new owners wont be able to set foot in the city. Hopefully MSI is just trying to apply a bit of pressure. |
