I posted this thread because of the varried opinions about the team.Personaly I would wait until the end of the season before making judgements and decisions. Going out of the FA Cup, which I dont expect, and transfers may be factors as to our direction for the rest of the season. For me there is no available manager that is better than Rafa and with a better track record. |

I think expectations were unrealistic. I've said several times I didn't expect to win the title. I just want to be up there. There's plenty of games to play yet, we've dropped silly points but so have Man Utd and Arsenal, we can make them up. We won't finish top, probably not 2nd, but we'll be closer I hope than we have been last season and the one before. |

I agree with TNK, I didn't expect to win the league this season. I hoped we'd be closer than last year - and so far we are. |

At the start of the season I said I'd be happy with the FA Cup and 3rd place in the league, or within 10 points of the top spot, whichever is better. Based on recent results I worry that we will struggle to fulfill these basic expectations. There is more than enough blame to go round though. RAFA: I think Rafa has engaged in some (I say some, not all) needless rotation. I'm less bothered about his formations as I am about his substitutions, most critically his timing of them. THE PLAYERS: I don't know whether this stems from rotation etc, but I think not because all players get the chance to work with all other players in training etc. I definitely feel we are not functioning effectively as a team and that some players do not mind being carried. THE OWNERS: The clear lack of communication on targets and transfers has clearly affected confidence at all levels of the club. If the manger does not feel secure in his position there will be an inevitable knock on effect to overall stability. I would say all of this is interconnected but I guess you can argue ultimate responsibility lies with Rafa because he is the one who must put private concerns aside and be the driving force behind a strong team. |

Personally I don't think the argument between Rafa and the owners really affected us, if anything it spurred us on and we played some of our best football ths season whilst it was supposed to be going on. I think the blame lies mainly with Rafa and the players. Put simply Rafa has made some mistakes in team selection and tactics in certain games and the players haven't performed to the best of their ability on too many occasions clearly showing up mistakes by Rafa. The Birmingham home game for example we should have been able to win without Torres but the players didn't perform, same goes for beating Wigan with just 1 up front we should still have won. Looking at it now unrealistic expectations at the start of the season makes the situation look worse than it perhaps is. We go 4th, 9 points behind the leaders, if we win our game in hand and whilst its below many including my pre-season expectations, if we finish that distance behind it would be a huge improvement on last season and realistically that about what we were expected to do by most non-LFC supporters, maybe slightly closer to the eventual winners but if I'm honest with myself I think winning the league this year was always going to be beyond us and thats proved to be the case. |
