Always business,never personal.

Will we ever be anything more than a 4th place side,at best, ever again? Have the glory day's of yesteryear gone for good? Maybe it's time to face that that's the case. Bar Carra not one player that was one that pitch today deserved the right to be wearing that shirt and when you're on about 50 grand a week the least you can do is put in the effort. But I think the worst part of it for me was I expcted it. I'm not shocked,I'm not angry,I'm not even disapointed. I'm just used to it now. So what's the answer? Is there one? Well there are a few players who have shown this season that their not up to the task but all in all the buck stops with the manager. Yes we've gotten to 2 CL Final's in 3 years, won the FA Cup,come close to the Carling Cup but I'm starting to doubt that he's the right man to take us that extra step and bring us the PL. Tactically you have to question some of his calls,I mean 4-5-1 against Wigan at home, but it's more than that. It's his stubborness to admit when he's got it wrong. Always 65-70 minutes before he makes a change when it's obvius to everyone that change is needed and the lack of motovation that he seems to instill in the team is just strange. So again there's talk about him losing his job in the summer bvut that's another thing I don't get. If they've made their minds up to fire him then why wait until then? Surely the ideal would be that if that's the case then let him go now and bring in a new boss? At least that way the new fella get's 6 months to get everyone used to him, maybe bring in some new faces and get rid of some old and then maybe we ight stand a chance at something better than 4th (if we're lucky) next year? Ah well,we shall see. |

I dont blame Rafa, surley the side he put out should have beaten Luton. The squad is not commited enough,Kuyt has played bad this season but this performance was his worst. If Rafa wants Masher there are several players who deserve to be sold but on this performance I doubt whether even Luton would want them. |

Ever since the Reading game we've been waiting for a performance to justify the soundbites being spouted by our players, and we're still waiting. I don't want Rafa to go but I honestly don't know how he can expect to survive. He's bought one world class player in Torres, another strong possible in Lucas, a strong maybe in Babel, has Gerrard and Carra, and here we are scrapping it out for 4th place with Citeh and Pompey. Where Utd and Chelsea are gunning for Berbatov and Anelka we're looking for a backup CB and a couple of Bosmans. Oh and trying to scrape together the cash to buy Bangers who appears to be quoted as saying he'd love to be playing back alongside Tevez. There is more than enough blame to go around between manager, owners and players, but fact is sharing blame isn't going to turn results around on the pitch. Unless our team plays like their lives depend on it from now to the end of the season it's going to be a very difficult three months. The top three, despite the repeated creamings of SSN, have not been at their best. You could argue it's been the weakest performance by the top three sides in five years or so. And we still couldn't capitalise. If Rafa can admit he doesn't know what the problem is or how to fix it then I'm in good company. :no" |

I'd rather the Yanks would leave than Rafa. They promised the debt wouldn't be put on the club - and then seem to be doing a 'glazer' by the back door. They promised to buy anyone Rafa wanted - well apart from Torres have the signed anyone big? - Masch is there, happy to sign and we're treading water, while other top European teams circle around him. If they can't even pull their fingers out to sign a player who is a Melwood every f*cking day then I really don't have confidence that they are going to be able to sign the quality CB, Wingers and another striker that we need. I don't blame Rafa for this - I think some people (fans and owners) had unrealistic expectations. We were never going to win the league signing just Torres. And if we get rid of Rafa who exactly is going to do better than him? Klinsman? I don't think so. Jose? Not without a pot of cash - and if they have a pot of cash (which I doubt) then I rather Rafa got to spend it than Jose. |

I agree with everything you've written here. I remember we got mocked by a lot of other fans (mostly Chelsea and ManU, unsurprisingly) when we were bought by the Yanks. I justified it by saying that was just the way football was, you need the cash. I remember a thread where I chatted to one of the Chelsea lads who was asking if we believed what they told us, and yes at the time I did genuinely believe it, especially after we stumped up for El Nino. Unfortunately that looks like a false dawn. After the "we'll sign anyone" quote that TNK threw out in another thread, we've (the players, the fans and Rafa) been badly let down by them. They seem to think we can win the PL because we've bought in one world class player under them. Not realistic, given the positions we've previously finished. We need another poachy striker (a la Berbatov - why the f**k aren't we looking at him?) a quality CM to cover for Carra, Hyypia and the Mighty Dane and a quality left winger who can genuinely drift past people (Babel is not there yet, and looks more like he could play off Torres). And Rafa is not to blame for that. The owners need to put their money where their mouths are, not bury their heads in the sand. They are on the verge of making us a laughing stock. Unless of course this is a media storm and in fact we end up signing Berbatov, Mancini and Kaladze in the transfer window I will relax a bit :console: |

Will we ever be anything more than a 4th place side,at best, ever again? Except we've been a top 3 side for the last 2 seasons  Have the glory day's of yesteryear gone for good? No Maybe it's time to face that that's the case. No it isn't Bar Carra not one player that was one that pitch today deserved the right to be wearing that shirt and when you're on about 50 grand a week the least you can do is put in the effort. Can't argue with that - totally spineless But I think the worst part of it for me was I expcted it. I'm not shocked,I'm not angry,I'm not even disapointed. I'm just used to it now. Bloody pessimists So what's the answer? Creativity on the wings and another top striker (or two ... or three ...) Is there one? I just gave you it Well there are a few players who have shown this season that their not up to the task but all in all the buck stops with the manager. True Yes we've gotten to 2 CL Final's in 3 years, won the FA Cup,come close to the Carling Cup but I'm starting to doubt that he's the right man to take us that extra step and bring us the PL. Aahhh - the old what have the Romans ever done for us syndrome Tactically you have to question some of his calls,I mean 4-5-1 against Wigan at home, but it's more than that. Was more like a to be 4-1-3-1-1 but that's just being picky - simple fact is that Torres and Gerrard have been our biggest goal scoring threats so to play one off the other isn't a particularly bad decision. It's his stubborness to admit when he's got it wrong. Is it? Always 65-70 minutes before he makes a change when it's obvius to everyone that change is needed and the lack of motovation that he seems to instill in the team is just strange. 80 minutes before they equalised - he'd have been crucified for changing a team that was winning - damned if he does - damned if he doesn't So again there's talk about him losing his job in the summer bvut that's another thing I don't get. Or Rafa could stay and, with the team he's built, win us the CL or the FA Cup - could it just be that they've decided to give him the rest of the season - keep the stability and see where we are in the summer before making any stupidly rash decisions. Ah well,we shall see. That we will |
