Grant is adamant he does not see his debut as a failure and admitted he would love to carry on his tenure at Chelsea. “I would like to be Chelsea manager next season, why not?” said Grant. “I’m very proud of many things. In the first press conference I said I wanted to improve our game, to be interesting and in the final of the Champions League. “I think everybody thought I was completely mad or crazy but we’ve done it. It’s good for a first year. Sir Alex Ferguson has only been in the (Champions League) final on two occasions so I have a future. “People thought Chelsea were on the way down but the players have shown they can develop and play better football. |

Avram Grant is a decent guy but he is not cut out to manage a team. Chelsea have played largely on autopilot this season. I will admit to having been pleasantly surprised at how far we did get in various competitions, but I still believe that this was in spite of, rather than because of, the manager. Players such as Terry, Lampard, Ballack and Makelele were, I feel, mainly responsible for the post-Christmas resurgence. |
