Fergie: We Have Matured

PREMIER LEAGUE & EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS 07/08

Sir Alex Ferguson feels Manchester United have matured as a European side and the Scot believes this will stand them in good stead as the Champions League heads into the knockout stages.

The Red Devils have fallen short in Europe since taking the title in 1999, but Ferguson has assembled a side which has both steel and silk and they have been tipped to go all the way this season.

French champions Lyon stand in United’s way in the last 16, but Ferguson has his eyes set on silverware.

”I am looking for success in Europe as well as at home,” said Ferguson. “We have the players and the back-up to do it.

”We are a more mature team in terms of European football and we have played some successful and entertaining stuff.

”We are with the leaders in the league and ready for exciting games ahead in the Champions League knockout stages.”

Fergie and the players really do seem focussed on the Champions League this season.

I can't remember seeing so many quotes coming from the United camp regarding the importance of the competition and our ability to win it before.

Hmm...
Fergie knows his time is running out, and we know he's desperate to win it again.

I just don't like all the quotes, it usually just leads to disappointment.

having said that, ,i think they should be favourites, you have an easy draw against lyon, don't kid yourselves they are not what they were. i don't think any other team is all that strong, maybe if you come up against arsenal they may give you a game, it depends if they panic. we could beat you on our day......just not sure when that day might be. all the rest seem to lack consistency, don't worry about inter we will knock them out for you. :lmao:

Real Madrid and Inter Milan could be our main competitors for the Champions League. Both are in good form and are top of their domestic leagues.

I fancy Arsenal to beat AC Milan. The last time I checked, AC Milan were 12th in Serie A (partly due to having 3 games in hand because of the World Club Championship) and at home in the league they have only scored 3 goals and not won ANY games.

Even if they won their games in hand, which is not guaranteed with that home record, they would be 6th.
