Chelsea have completed a £15m deal to sign Nicolas Anelka from Bolton.

The French striker, 28, has signed a four-and-a-half year contract and could figure in Saturday's game with Spurs.

Bolton had rejected a £12m bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit, who are short of fowards because of injuries and Africa Cup of Nations call-ups.

"It's not a secret that I was looking for one more striker, and Anelka has pace, is a good finish

.......................

Lets hope, he does well for us

“I now know everything about what it means to be at a big club. I've learnt from earlier in my career,'' he said.

“I have learnt how to cope with difficult situations. It was difficult before because I was young. But I can handle it now.''

He also said his nickname of 'Le Sulk' was unfair and given to him by people who did not know or understand him.

“I am a happy person, I think my reputation for sulking is unfair. I never said there was anything wrong in my career, what people said about me, those people didn't know me.

“The players I played with at Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and the other clubs have never said anything bad about me.''

He also denied a suggestion made by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that he wanted to return to the North London club last year.

Nicolas Anelka shattered two myths in one sentence on Thursday when he revealed his plan to stop Didier Drogba from leaving Chelsea and making the same mistakes he made.

The France striker may have earned a reputation for being selfish and uncommunicative during a career which now spans eight clubs in little more than a decade.

But he was anxious to speak with Drogba and convince him they can share many beautiful years together at Stamford Bridge. The pair spoke on the phone on Wednesday and Anelka will pursue the issue when Drogba returns next month from the Africa Cup of Nations.

'When Didier comes back I will speak with him because he doesn't know anything about when you leave England,' said Chelsea's new £15million man. 'I do because I did it and I know that English football and the Premier League are the best.

settling in

It's a big club with big playe
rs, and I hope we will have more wins because we've a lot of quality in this team. The sky is the limit.
"When you play with big players, they know what they have to do, so I'm glad to be here and to play.
"I am enjoying my football and trying to win because the best feeling is to win games.

"I had waited for this move for a long time, so when the chance came to sign for a big club like Chelsea, I was very pleased and I think I will enjoy my time here."
Anelka was pleased to get his first goal in Chelsea colours, taking his opportunity in the absence of Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko and Salomon Kalou.

"I knew my chance would come," Anelka added.
"I'm new at the club, so the best you can do is create chances. I'd hit the bar twice in other games, but there has been no need for panic because I knew I would get more chances.
"Against Wigan, I got one and scored, so it's good."

Anelka's first Premier League goal for the club was not enough to secure a club-record 10th straight win against Portsmouth on Saturday, but the title race is still wide open.

Although Chelsea lost ground as Arsenal won at Manchester City, Anelka remains confident that the Gunners can be caught.

"We can still be champions and we are trying to win the title, so of course we are disappointed we drew but we have a lot of games and try to win game after game," said Anelka.

"We don't care about what people say, we know we have to win games and try to do it. We will see in the end. Of course I am confident. I think it's a big club and we have a big squad with good players.

"Everything is possible, we still have a lot of games. Arsenal can drop points, United as well, and we try to win. The most important thing is to win. If I don't score I don't care, as long as we win."

Nicolas ANELKA is the highest scoring player in the Chelsea squad with 13 goals, but 11 of those were for Bolton.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka said the players should take the blame for Saturday's FA Cup humiliation at Barnsley rather than manager Avram Grant.

The Israeli coach has admitted he is under the microscope again at Stamford Bridge after the 1-0 quarter-final loss in Yorkshire followed soon after the League Cup final defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

"We knew it was going to be difficult because (Barnsley) played with their lives and everyone in the dressing room was determined to win this game. Sometimes in football, things go wrong and you have to accept it," Anelka, signed by Grant in January, told Chelsea's Web site (www.chelseafc.com) on Monday.

"Barnsley played well and sometimes these results happen. The tactics were right. Chelsea is a big club and we should be better than this.

"The criticism must be about the players because we didn't play well and we have to accept the fact. We know the media will be after the manager but you know as players when you played well and we didn't."

Nicolas Anelka has reinforced the notion that he is a changed man at Chelsea by insisting that he is happy contributing off the bench if that is what is best for the team.

Anelka: I'm Prepared To Sacrifice For The Team

Nicknamed 'Le Sulk' as the result of of his reputation of being a moody individualist, the French international striker has given many indications that he has turned a new leaf upon his return to London.

"Sometimes you play and sometimes you don't," was Anelka's response when pressed on whether the fact that he has been used mostly as a substitute is affecting him.

"You have to accept it as a group and realise that the most important thing is that the team wins something.

"There are so many games in a season at Chelsea and everyone will have the chance to contribute.

"I don't think about being a starter - of course I want to play - but I want to help the team win things in the first place, that is the main thing I think about.

Nicolas Anelka is sensationally out of Chelsea's last game of the season against Bolton Wanderers.

The Sun says a new rule introduced last summer states a player cannot face his former team after moving on loan and then signing permanently for that club.

Although it was never made public at the time, Anelka actually signed for Chelsea on loan on the night of Friday January 11.

That was because there was not enough time to arrange a permanent switch before the home meeting with Spurs the next day.

The deal was sealed the following week but the method of Anelka's transfer means he can only play one more Premier League game this season - at Newcastle on Monday.

Chelsea asked the Premier League board on Tuesday for special dispensation but their case was thrown out.

France international Nicolas Anelka is ready to end his nomadic football existence and has pledged to stay with Chelsea for next season.

It has been suggested that the Frenchman, who made The Blues his fifth English club when joining from Bolton in January, could be the victim of a summer overhaul at Stamford Bridge having failed to catch the eye since his £15 million move.

As a player that has had eight transfers in the past 11 years, Anelka claims stability is now paramount and the forward is hoping for a long and prosperous career in West London.

“No, I am staying,” said Anelka in the News of the World.

“Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world so there’s no point moving again because we contest the Champions League and Premier League title.

“I have moved too many times. Even if I am on the bench, I am glad to be here.
