Achievement is its own reward - pride obscures it

do we go in to wed's game with the old George Graham flat back 10 formation & defend our away goal or a Kevin Keegan style 4 -1 - 5 attacking formation & go for a big win?? Personally, i thnk if we play like we did on saturday, they won't be able to cope with it. "thumb" "thumb" |

It's an interesting one. Liverpool need to score to stand any chance of going through, and our defence has been shaky recently. But i can see Liverpool sitting back in the first half, making sure they don't concede and then going for the goal(s) in the second half. So it all comes down to how we line up. If it were me in charge, i would probably do the following: Taking into account what i've already said about Liverpool in the first half, we may as well attack them, but not commit too many forward, as they have a bit of pace on the break, in players like Torres. And if he was left 1 on 1 with Terry, then i'd fancy him to beat him, or Terry get himself sent off for blocking him. So i would line up: Cech Cole ------> Terry Alex (If Carvalho is suspended, which i seem to recall he is) Belletti -------> Cole -----> <--Mikel Ballack --> Essien -----> Drogba Anelka So 4-4-2 in the first half, with full backs and midfield pushing on, but Mikel sitting deep incase they counter. Hopefully this would get us a goal or two, but we've had difficulty scoring when on top as of late, so i wouldn't hold my breath. 2nd Half Assuming Liverpool haven't scored yet, they will be desperate to do so over the next 45 minutes and will be attacking us much more. So, a more defensive set up would be required, with Us breaking on the counter: Cech Cole Terry Alex Belletti Cole--> Ballack <--Mikel <--Essien--> Kalou/Wright-Phillips --> Drogba This would allow us to sit back more, and while not inviting the pressure, soak it up a bit more with Mikel & Essien sitting deep and our full backs not bombing on as much. But still have the pace of Cole, Kalou or Wright-Phillips (yeah i know they've got nothing else except pace, but they're better than Malouda), and Essien to break with. That's my summing up anyway. |

I'd love to see us play like we did on Saturday, and if we can do that I think they'll struggle to cope with us. Saying that, I can see us putting up the sort of performance we did against Fenerbache at home and I think a nail biting 90 minutes lies ahead. |
