Avram Grant was in typically humble mood after Chelsea beat Liverpool to progress to their first ever Champions League final. Chelsea won 3-2 on the night at Stamford Bridge, giving them a 4-3 aggregate victory that books their place in Moscow to play Manchester United in the final. Grant, who dropped to his knees at the final whistle and dedicated the win to his grandfather who died in the Holocaust, has been much-maligned since taking over from Jose Mourinho, but has already gone one better than the so-called Special One did during his time in West London. “There’s only 'Special One',” quipped Grant. “I’m very happy, it’s something special here in England, especially against Liverpool. They are a fantastic team. “We create history and I’m very proud that I did it in my way. My staff are excellent staff, everybody played a part of the creation here." Grant paid special tribute to Frank Lampard, who played the first game since the death of his mother last week and scored a penalty in extra time. "Frank played very well and in my opinion was one of our key players today," Grant said. "It is not an easy thing, he is under....you know what he is under. "He gave everything to the team." |
