Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho faces a race to be fit in time for their crucial game against Bolton on Sunday.

Carvalho limped out of their victory over Newcastle on Monday afternoon after twice falling heavily on his back.

The Portuguese international underwent intensive treatment on the injury on Tuesday and is desperate to be fit in time to face Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea know that a result which betters Manchester United's on the final day of the season will earn them the title.

Steve Bennett has been appointed to take of the title decider at the JJB Stadium where table-topping Manchester United take on Steve Bruce's Wigan.

The other match which sees second-placed Chelsea host Bolton will be refereed by Chris Foy.

Can Bolton still be relegated? But the chances of Fulham beating Portsmouth is very slim.

You'd think and normally I agree but given that match doesn't mean quite as much to Portsmouth as the one after, wouldn't be shocked to see an unusual team! Chelsea need a stupid amount of goals, think the best we can hope is a wigan draw.

Alex comes into defence in place of Ricardo Carvalho with Michael Essien at right-back and Player of the Year Joe Cole returning in front of the Ghanaian.

Florent Malouda retains his place on the left wing; Claude Makelele resumes the anchor role and Ashley Cole is back at left-back.

Nicolas Anelka is ineligible to face his former team.

Bolton make just one change, Joey O'Brien coming into midfield in place of Danny Guthrie. On the bench they have two goalkeepers with both Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ian Walker named.

Chelsea will line-up in a 4-3-3 formation as follows:

1 Petr Cech
5 Michael Essien
33 Alex
26 John Terry ©
3 Ashley Cole
13 Michael Ballack
4 Claude Makelele
8 Frank Lampard
10 Joe Cole
11 Didier Drogba
15 Florent Malouda

Substitutes: 23 Carlo Cudicini, 35 Juliano Belletti, 12 John Mikel Obi, 21 Salomon Kalou, 7 Andriy Shevchenko.

Bolton are expected to line-up in the following 4-3-3 formation:

Al Habsi; Steinsson, A O'Brien, Cahill, Samuel; McCann, Nolan ©, J O'Brien; Diouf, Davies, Taylor.

Subs: Jaaskelainen, Walker, Miete, Giannakopoulos, Cohen.

The referee is Chris Foy.
