Online Service Updates from EA Sports; Scheduled shutdowns for the Tiger Woods online services

As background information, the games scheduled for shutdown represent less than 0.3% of all peak online players across all EA titles. Despite some people's perception, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these older games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99.7% of customers playing our more popular games. These decisions to retire games is never easy. The EA development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage.

If you have further questions about your account or the shut down of these services, please visit http://support.ea.com .

Thank you,
Electronic Arts

Good News, Bad News

I won't watercolor it so here's the jib, I FINALLY got an email back from EA regarding our questions about the online service for TW11 & 12.

They said:
EA Dev Team

Hi, Stephanie
I just heard back from the dev team, and this is what they said.

“The live tournaments will stop on all Tiger 11 games on March 26th. Everything else online for Tiger 11 will continue to work. Tiger 12 will continue to receive live tournaments until sometime in 2013. Though they will be scaled back starting March 27th.”

I apologize for the delay. Please let me know if there is anything else you need clarification on.
Thanks

What this means:

Tiger Woods 11:
1. The Live Online Dailies, Weeklies and PTP will cease on March 26th 2012.
2. The Lobby will remain open until further notice.

Tiger Woods 12:
The Live Online Dailies, Weeklies and PTP will continue until sometime in 2013. However beginning March 27th, 2012 they will be "scaled back"*.

*To what extent we don't know but, I have written back requesting further clarification about it.

Should you wish to contact EA about this see this post: http://s4.zetaboards.com/iwgc/topic/7962259/ or add to this post in the EA Forum http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/8085712.page

:? :?
Maybe they're taking away the PTP :o
That would REALLY  me off
As far as I'm concerned, they can do away with the Daily/Weekly AM's and keep the Daily Pro and PTP, but I'm only :fingers crossed: and

In a perfect world EA would provide the service for the expected term, which in the past has been two years after release of each version. So, for the TW11 Live Tournaments this is the expected time for them to go. I'm thinking that since there is no Wii version of 13 in the near future that, that is the reason they are keeping the lobby open.

As far as 12 is concerned, the scaling back of Live tournaments doesn't make sense. The game hasn't even been out a year yet and many just got it for Christmas and probably haven't even gotten to the online portion of the game yet. Once they do, I would imagine that they will not be pleased to see the lack of online support for an allegedly popular version of the game. I know I would be, I paid my $50 and I EXPECT to get what I paid for and that included access to Live tournaments AND the ability to set games with friends. :2cents:

We will see what their answer is and hope that it won't be scaled back too much. :fingers crossed:

IMO what I think is happening is that they need to devote every available team member to the development of the WiiU version. I know that they haven't officially said there will be one, but I have NO doubts that we will see a TW13 on the WiiU and it will probably be sooner than later. Rmember, E3 is in June and Nintendo is re-unveiling the WiiU. EA Sports will be at the conference too and you know there will be a big announcement of some kind, just like last year with the Kinect on the 360.

the PTP's for TW11 ceased when TW12 came out. i'm guessing that will happen with TW12 when XBox/PS3/13 hits on March 27th. the best we can probably hope for is that at least the TP Tuesdays/Thursdays continue on properly.

anyway, we still need a solid definition of "Scaled Back", from EA. figuring out the future from what they did in the past has been a fruitless bit of business.

UPDATE:

Regarding the "Scaled Back" comment Bettie received from EA, here is some new information regarding TW12 Wii LIVE online tournaments (from a series of emails between her and the community manager for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour Series):

 Response from EA:
"I was able to get some more clarification. You will still get a Daily Am, Daily Pro, Weekly AM and Weekly Pro. There will be no more PTP or TPX events on Tuesday/Thursday, as well as custom events for seasons. Please let me know if this helps, or if you have any more questions."

 Bettie wrote back and requested the following:
"Would you please pass along a note to Boz and ask him to please set the online live PRO tourneys to "Advanced or Better" instead of only "Advanced" for the Swing setting.

Locking them in Advanced eliminates the option for Tour Pro players to use Tour Pro swing. Therefore, preventing them from playing in their preferred style and reducing participation in those tournaments.

Also, it would be nice to have Tour Pro Tuesday and Thursday back in the lineup regularly. There are many of us that miss that."

 Response from EA:
"Please let me know if this issue has been resolved. I asked Ben to look into it. Thanks!"

 Bettie: "YES! The issue has been resolved. The Dailies and Weeklies are now set to Advanced or Better and Tour Pro Tuesday and Thursday are back in the lineup!"

The only thing that will not be back is the Play the Pros. :(

I hope that this helps those of you still playing on the Wii. 8-)

Thanks to Betti for her diligence on this. The loss of the PTP, while regretable, is not a biggie since we were switching to our own events anyway. But I'm really glad they're keeping the TP Tuesday/Thursday and setting others to "Adv or Better." Thanks bettie,
