Inez greeted Magnum and Padron both with soft kisses to their noses and carrot chunks which both stallions took gently out of her hand with their lips. Inez whistled at Shadow and called promises of carrots and exercise later. She turned her attention back to Chase and shook her head at his question. <b>"They don't get much exercise in the pasture. Too valuable for that. The most free time they get is when I handwalk them to give them exercise or if I take them out and put them in a pasture that's too small for them to get the chance to really run. They can only graze and maybe trot around a little."</b> Inez grinned when he told her that he could help her work out the two studs. She herself would ride Shadow. She had other Arabs but they got turned out in the pasture on a daily basis and thus didn't need as much exercise. At Chase's inquiry about bringing his dog to work, she nodded. <b>"Sure. Just so long as he gets along with horses and doesn't chase them."</b> Inez thought for a second and then spoke again. <b>"Padron and Shadow haven't been worked yet today. Want to ride Padron while I ride Shadow?"</b>

Chase nodded understandingly, because after all, they were Pysche's. Everyone and their grandkids wanted to own one, it didn't matter whether they'd ever handled an arabian before either. He looked on as Inez offered the stallions carrots (promising more of the same for the grey down yonder), and he was a bit surprised by her words. Bbut then he'd never been lucky enough to own a Psyche either. It made sense, horses as valuable as these couldn't be left to chance. There was a high probability that they could severely injure themselves in a large pasture and Inez would lose whatever investment she had in them if they had to be put down. "Aw, Leo doesn't chase anything. He's lazy." Chase shook his head when speaking of Leonidas. The dog was a mutt he'd found hiding out under his garage when he was a pup and after much begging on Chases' part, his parents allowed the dog to stay. They'd never been apart since that fateful day. Her offer to ride Padron was met with a quick nod. "Sure thing. How far do you want to go?"

Inez nodded when he informed her that Leo, the dog he wanted to bring with him when he came here to work, was really lazy and wouldn't chase any of the horses. Inez was satisfied with that answer and then after thinking for a moment, decided to test him by allowing him to ride Padron. "Well, its getting warm so I don't want to take them too far. I know they can tolerate heat but I just don't want to take the chance. We can take them for a quick ride on the trail that's out back. It leads in a loop around a lake thats on the far outside edge of my property. Let's saddle up." She motioned for him to follow and then when they reached the tack room, she grabbed Shadow's tack and then showed him where Padron's tack was. She only had English tack for her horses now but when she could afford it, she would get them each a set of western tack so that if she did enter them in any Western shows, she would have the proper tack. Once they had their respective tack and the grooming kits for each horse, she walked back to where Shadow was and starting grooming him once she had led him out and secured him to the crossties.

Had Chase realized that Inez would set out to 'test' him, he would have thanked her, declined the job and moved on. He hated so-called tests, his parents always did that to him while growing up and now that he was older, he found that he was tired of such games. Most owners wouldn't resort to testing potential employees, they would either trust them or they wouldn't, luckily Chase didn't feel like he was being tested at all. It had been awhile since he'd worked with an arabian, but he figured that it was kind of like riding a bike, you just never forgot. Following Inez to the barn, Chase grabbed Padron's tack and headed towards the stallion's stall. He set the tack down across a sawhorse for a moment, gazing calmly at the chestnut horse inside the stall. He whistled at Padron first, gauging the stallion's reaction to his presence.

:: If Padron can't tolerate Shadow, they shouldn't get near each other, which is why this test is rather strange. Going by the first thread, Shadow and the Psyche's weren't best of friends. Unless Padron's personality has changed, this exercise ride isn't feasible you know? ::

Inez wasn't going to be the one to test him. It was going to be Padron that was going to be doing the testing. He was a sweetheart on the ground as he had impeccable ground manners but since he had the bad habit of testing his rider, even Inez for the first 10 minutes or so once they were in the saddle, Inez always worked him in the round pen when she was alone so that she could mostly control him. He never bucked but he liked to do a lot of hijinks that made an onlooker think he was completely untrained but it was just his own way of warming himself up. Inez had started grooming Shadow by then, taking time to make his coat shine like polished silver.

Padron snorted as the strange man appeared in front of his stall and he stood away from the front of the stall for about two minutes before he came forward, his long neck extending and his nostrils flaring wide to inhale Chase's scent. Once he realized that this man was ok, he lowered his head and let the man do what he was going to do. Inez was combing Shadow's mane out when she saw Chase lead Padron out of the stall. "When you get him saddled, ride him around the indoor arena for about 10 minutes. He likes to jig and dance for about that much time right when you first get in the saddle. He might even try a few bucks but that's rare. Just let him know he has a rider and he'll calm down quickly enough."

Once Padron seemed to accept him, Chase opened the stall door, clipped the lead rope to the stallion's halter and led him out towards the crossties. Once secured, he brushed Padron down, checking his hooves, making sure each shoe was properly secure. "Hey, does Padron wear leg wraps or anything?" Chase glanced over at Inez, never one to overlook any small detail. He combed out Padron's mane and tail, placed the saddle pad across his back, then the saddle. He fixed the girth, making sure it was fitted nicely before he replaced the halter with the bridle. Once the stallion was tacked up, Chase looked to Inez, wondering whether there was any protective tack she wanted him to use on her precious stallion.

Inez had finished with Shadow's grooming by then and she had started to get him saddled up. Shadow shifted back and forth a little bit as she put the blanket and saddle on him but she scolded him gently and Shadow turned his head a little and wiggled his lip at her with a goofy expression on his face. Padron settled down and followed Chase out of the stall. He stood still while Chase groomed him and lifted his hooves almost instantly when Chase ran his hand down his legs. He had been trained to do so by Inez due to her being small. Padron had learned to balance himself so that he didn't lean too much weight on Inez while she was working with his feet. Chase had questioned her about any protective gear that Padron might need and she nodded. <b>"He does need protective wraps on his legs. If you need help with that, I can help. Padron would rather not wear them but he has to wear them."</b> She had just finished bridling Shadow by then and had led him down the aisle closer to Padron. Both stallions sniffed at each other and then Padron just turned his muzzle away and turned his head to nip playfully at Chase as if to say 'hurry up already'.
