This has been a problem in the early Altezzas 3SGEs. The factory replaced units as they broke down under warranty, but some are still breaking now.

I read about it on 'Relaxonarena.jp' a couple of years ago, but those files are no longer up on the web.

Terry's car in Wellington has just died from the broken spring inside the throttle body, and they are impossible to find.

Thanks Keith

There are no 2nd hand throttle bodies in the country at the moment. I tried
K-road. They've sold theirs to people who have broken springs.

Funny thing is a new motor with 50k on it would now cost about $2,500. A new
Throttle body from Toyota is $3400.

Regards
Terry

This is a problem we should try & solve within the club.

Any ideas??

Poor manufacturing or design I think in this case.

Signature cars in New Zealand should be covered OK, even tho' they are 2nd hand jap imports.

I'll try to get the post up that was all about "Altezzas & their characters..." Listing all the faults and quirks. (like the squeaking gearlever boot in 5th gear...)

damn...more issues with theses god awful devices. I HATE the electronic throttle body. Every time i reset my ECU my throttle body goes nuts and the electronic part turns off. I have to take it off and molest the innards for a bit then once its back on it goes back to normal.

I vote that we find a manufacturer willing to replicate the stock 71mm (or perhaps make a 75mm unit :o ) that is completely throttle actuated. They would need to move the fulcrum point (for lack of a better term) on the butterfly shaft up (or down...dont remember) about 4mm so that the throttle cable's lever can press on it sooner.

Ill take pictures the next time the trac decides its gonna be funky
Damn you and your admin powers...damn you!

I got a spare throttle body lying in the garage, if someone wants it to have a look at. Instead of taking the 1 off your car.
