Not much in it? It's over 7% worse without the lid, that's a huge difference. If petrol went up by 7% that'd be about 12 cents, and you'd complain then.

Doesn't the power button just increase the point where it automatically shifts, rather than actually increasing power in any way? You could very well be expecting it to run better without the lid, and therefore tricking yourself into thinking it's better.

Note with no lid it'll suck in far warmer air (especially on longer distance drives), which isn't preferable.

I wouldn't call 7% huge, I was expecting more and as I said I couldn't say for certain what power increases there were it just "felt" better and not everyone agrees that warm air is bad some say it's more of a quantity thing and what's the whole exagerated spoon thing about?

Lol!

I thought "Yeah, Mikes right, there's not a lot in it, less than a l/100km..."

Then I read Spoon's post and thought "shit he's right, if petrol went up that much I'd moan about it!"

What it really shows it that Toyota were pretty cunning with the design they used, seeing it uses less fuel than an open box. You may be right about the extra power, but that would be very hard to measure.

The aircon would have quite an effect on that last set of tests, it would chew fuel up.

:D I would definately be moaning if or should I say when petrol goes up that much but the extra cost of running the Altezza wouldn't bother me as much, if that makes any sense and I agree it would be hard to measure and I don't intend to try, maybe somebody else will ;)

I was expecting the last test to be worse than it was considering how much I used the A/C and the bizarre thing is my last tank of gas got me only 410kms and I used the A/c far less??? I did however did a half fill of 95 at BP previous to that, maybe I got jinxed by not sticking with shell and ended up with some salt water in my gas  Also it was all 100% around town driving.

Ummmmm, tick? I can think of several different kinds of tick but I doubt your meaning any of those, is it a signature thing?

To all the turbo altezzas out these just wondering what kind of distance you guys get off a full tank or whatever you use. I am currently wanting to turbo my altezza and was just curious how much difference it makes with a turbo. I currently get 300kms form $55 which at the moment is around 29 liters.

If you want to see where its lean and where its rich then $60 buys you a Jaycar kit for an air fuel display.

I've got one running on the KE70 with two narrow-band oxy sensors (one for each carb) and its fascinating. A change in wind direction (by going around a corner) changes it from lean to rich as the headlight shields the air intake!

This is a crappy phone vid of it running on a lean cruise. The display works fine and the carbs keep in close synchrony with each mixture. The switch flicks from one sensor to the other.

On the Altezza you should be able to piggyback into the O2 sensor in the exhaust, that's what the unit was designed for

I got between 250-400kms per fil (~50litres) depending on driving. Tune was very rich though so others may be getting better.
