anyone got a grounding kit fitted like the HKS one shown on the link, u can get ones made by Apexi & other manufacturers also: here what exactly does it do is there any benefits from it? i heard is more noticeable on auto gearbox cars?? & is it easy to insstall yourself? only that i notice lots of people with japanese cars in phillipines & Taiwan got these earthing kits on their Toyota Corona, honda civics & mazda 323! |

this should be in Speed matters The point of the grounding kits are to reduce the electrical resistance in the circuits between the ECU and various sensors. Here is an example (all numbers are fictional and are for educational purposes only). Say the TPS(throttle position sensor) sends out a 5v signal at wide open throttle, but due to the resistance in the grounds the ECU only see's 4.5v. You wont be getting the proper fuel and ignition maps for wide open throttle. its basically the same with the other sensors, making sure the ECU is seeing exactly what the sensors are putting out. |

Yea its easy, just follow the stock grounding lines. Basically its a reinforcement to what we have now. IF you noticed that your lights dim when you wind up all your windows at once, or here your engine dying a little, then the grounding kits can cure these problems. Apprently it makes a difference for our cars, I've been comtemplating these for a while, just dont think I should be paying $150 for a bunch of wires. I'm taking my time and hunting around for nice looking wires so I can crimp them myself. Does the same job : ) |

made my own kit for a fraction of the cost. Just get some good quality 4gauge & 8gauge wire, a distribution block (if you need one) and the terminals from an audio shop. |

Making your own certainly sounds like the right approach. Anyone got a diagram or list of what should be connected to where to create the same effect? |

Yeah I got a Apexi one, didnt notice any significant difference, but car felt a bit more agressive through full acceleration. It's better to have one than to not to but its more about removing electrical "noise" in the engine as talked about in other posts. and yep that are apparenlty easy and cheap to do it yourself! cheers.....Hayden |

![]() if your in Sydney FHRX does some very neat grounding kits. Very simple to make, and you determine your ground lengths. |

- from here Create your own design based the above, personal preference and common sense. Do you want the cable to be discrete or blingy? How much cable do you have? Do you want to do a daisy chain/series or a hub and spoke style connection? Take all this into consideration and take your own original approach. |

Complete and utter waste of time and money. If you have an earthing problem then fix the factory earth wire that's failed. ( most likely due to corrosion ) Happy to be proven wrong with some before and after dyno sheets. |

Don't think it did anything power wise, tried it, but removed it cause it looked heaps cluttered. Helped with 'slightly' easier starting, maybe less dimming of lights when you use the windows etc but apart from that not alot. Factory grounds in the Altezzas are pretty decent

wouldnt the throttle cable will be acting as a earth anyway? as im sure the throttle pedal is bolted to the firewall and the cables attached to that so it would therefore earth ????? its not like the throttle cables insulated and i doubt it would be. someone correct me if im wrong. |

From what I have been told, an earthing kit is supposed to give an increase in acceleration response and smoothing out of the idle, as well as stopping any drop in output when turning on the radio, heat/AC and lights at the same time. Ive had an earthing kit in my altezza since the start of 2004, so Im so used to driving with it, that I wouldn't know any different ![]() All I know, is that cleaning my MAF sensor and throttle body, in conjunction with new spark plugs and replacing a faulty coil pack has made a HUGE and very noticeable difference to my cars functioning! |
