I'm trying to decide what the next steps for my car should be and can't quite work out what I should do, and what order might be most sensible. I'm really aiming for better low-end torque in future mods, and wonder what would be best to do next. I've already got * Apexi heatshield and HKS intake, good cold air routing due to C-West front kit venting * Fujitsubo power getter exhaust, bolt on from the resonator My options seem to be: * Fuller exhaust mods? Extractors + cat replacement etc? * S-AFC II * Maybe just a tune? dyno time? Any thoughts? I'm not committed to any of the above necessarily, just interested in deciding what would be best to do next... I presume the exhaust mods (extractors esp) might be premature if I decide to go turbo at some point... whereas the S-AFC would be worthwhile even with a TC or SC.... |

If I was you, (You do have 3SGE right?) I would go a Power FC, cams, and cam gears. |

Depending on the cams they might not give any boost in low end power as most tend to move the power band farther up in the rev range. Toda's cams may help where as i doubt the TRD cams would. And as for the cam gears they would either sacrifice low end power for the sake of high rpm power or vise versa. Gain 4-5lb/ft down low and lose 4-5hp up top. The dual VVTi can give you the best of both worlds as its constantly adjusting...it might not give as much overall power as the cam gears would tuned in either direction but 1-2hp wont be noticed. for low end...grab a 4-2-1 header...HKS makes one as well as either and Emanage or if you have the $ a power fc and get it tuned. Twincams had his emanage tuned and gain a stupid amount of power in the midrange (this is with a cold air intake, headers, high flow cat and exhaust) ![]() What i dont understand is this. Why bother to make the car something its not? Adapt to it, change how you drive in order to make better use of the engines characteristics. I understand your feelings on the lack of low end power but personally...it doesnt bother me because i have learned to make use of it. The car is peaky and i aim to make it more so, cams, valve springs, c-one header and a power fc...8800rpm here i come |

Thanks guys - that's useful. I guess I want to improve what I see as a weakness of the car with the kind of driving I like doing with it, and such a hard, rigid suspension setup which is MADE for hard cornering. It just annoys the crap out of me when I'm trying to stay in the power band while pushing the car - I can never quite do it without jamming it horribly into first at inopportune times. Don't get me wrong - I love the peakiness of it, but I dislike the absolute lack of ANYTHING down low. I'm happy with the overall power output, just want to tidy things up a bit down low. Seems like a fun mission ![]() Would it be sensible to do cam gears and such before lightened flywheel and/or clutch kit? I want to do things in a semi-logical order and haven't heard of a lot of people doing that. As for a 4-2-1 header - are these generally made to bolt onto the existing exhaust setup, or do people generally put bigger diameter pipes in, as well as high-flow cats and such? Cheers again for the input. |

I am under the impression for you to do cam gears you have to get the TRD VVTi-Invalid cams. I may be wrong. The aftermarket 4-2-1 headers will bolt up to the stock exhaust. The stock midsection is ok but at least accompany the header with a rear muffler section to get the full benefits. |
