I have had an offer from Stocks for bulk buyng suspension sets. We will have to buy five sets at once, like the lightweight flywheels.

Here are the prices and components. The only thing missing is the ride height, which I will find out when Grant gets back from holiday...

A) Replace shocks with KYBs, 30% stiffer $440 incl GST

B ) Replace springs with Kings 340lb/235lb $360incl

So option one of KYB and Kings is $800incl

C)Koni adjustable shocks with variable mounting points $1055

So option 2 of Konis & Kings is $1415incl

D)Konis coilovers on adjustable platforms $2090incl. These have Kings on the rear and 65mm race coils on the front.

So, post up any questions and let me know what you would like-

Grant is getting some sample springs drawn, and expects the ride height to be 30mm lower in the front and 35mm lower in the rear!

I suppose I'll just have to use Greeneyes as the test bed ...

I'll organise before and after photos when everything is ready!

How much will the car be lower if I just put the springs in and retain the stock shocks?
Will this harm my shocks?

The standard shocks won't handle stiffer springs, it will give a choppy ride like those riced-out Civics bouncing around the place!

The standard springs will handle stiffer shocks, but best is a matched set of lower + stiffer springs, and uprated shocks.

One day I'll get a set of Konis that will lower the car but keep the same springs...

Feel free to chat to Grant at Stocks and say you're in Altezzaclub.

For those prices do we all have to get the same package or not?

I would possibly be keen on the KYB's; that was the same set-up I had in my Integra. But really not in a position for anything above option 2 at $1415.

Thanx

Hi Greeneyes, With the KYB Shocks....and they a particular model number shocks or there is only one type for our Altezzas? Whats the retail outside the group buy price? Gas or Oil type?

they only mentioned one KYB for Altezzas, a gas strut.

A bit better than standard, but basically the same. I don't know what they would retail for.

I know the Konis for $1055 compares well to the retail for non-adjustable fixed height Konis of $1380!

We would need five of any set to really make it worthwhile for them, but you can always sweet-talk Grant into something....

You may not have an answer for this Keith but, if the KYB are 30% stiffer how about the Koni with variable mounting point?

When are you thinking about this group buy?
Thanx.

The Konis have 12way adjustment I think. I haven't looked that close at them. ...and adjustable mounting points mean you can lower the car as well as stiffen it.

I wasn't planning any particular time for buying, just whenever enough people are keen.

A comment made to me by somebody has raised the question in my mind; Do we need to get certs if we use any of this suspension. I didnt in the past with the KYB package.

Can you please confirm for me.

Certification is required if the suspension has adjustable height.

So bank on another $350 for cert. (finally got mine certed a couple of weeks ago)

Yup, so my question is that mean only the Coilovers need to be certified or either of the Koni packages.
It's all a joke really as my last car came into country on TEIN coilovers and that was never certified, never mind. My advantage then I guess.

they only had to be certed since 2003

all height adjustable coilovers with moveable perches ie screw type has to be certed

hope that makes it clear

back in teh day before they had to certed all i did was raise it so it was high, get my warrent and put them back down but yeah cant do that now obviously :(

well not sure if ur wondering but im not 100% sure here

but i dont think the koni yellows with circlip have to be certed

i know many ppl using them and have gotten away without needing a cert
but it doesnt give much height adjustment but if u have some good lowering springs then may give a good drop

if u dont want height adjust and just want good shocks get koni's, i wouldnt bother with these just better than standard KYB's

I just got off the phone to Grant. The Koni with moveable platform is not a Coilover and there fore does NOT require certs.

Don't hold me to this, but he did say that the price quoted to Keith he would honour for me on a 1 on 1 basis. So who knows, we may not require 5ppl for this.

Hi Greeneyes,

I'm interested in buying the koni shocks set because I already had Kings spring on and found that they are really bumpy.

Will the KONIs solve the problem?

Stiffer shocks will smooth the ride out, but you will really need to get Stocks to measure the spring rates and set the shocks to suit it.

They reckon you can have a stiffer spring than standard and get a smoother ride as well!

The problem you have is common, a stiff spring with a shock not strong enough to control it.

Lets get the group buy going, come' on guys :D

A week ago, I went to ask about the koni set at Mag & Turbo, they priced up $ 1550 fitted. They also recommended that these sport shocks would not last long, but it can be re-gas or something (cost abt 100 each).

Has anyone done that before?

Okay, so how do I get hold of this Grant character? My shocks have done 100 000+ km and are starting to get too vague for my liking.

I’m favouring the 30% firmer KYBs and 30 mm drop Kings, according to the above I should be able to get these for $800 (if I can get the group buy price for just me)

Would it be correct to assume that the spring and damping rates match for this combo since Stocks presented this combo to us as an option?
