I'm referring to if you were to walk into a retail store over there to purchase one. What's the name of those huge car supermarket's they have in Tokyo?

i just got this baby installed yesterday and boy is it nice

i havent driven it around much but first impressions are great
its physical heigh is pretty much the same as the stock stick, but as you would come to expect, the throw is much shorter
the movement is more tighter but much more precise
as a comparison, when its in 5th gear, it looks half way between neutral and 3rd on the stock, compared to it being all the way to the right, almst touching ur knee when u clutch

yup thats correct

anyway, after some more spirited driving the advantages and disadvantages of the shifter are apparent

firstly, as stated before the throws between gears are shorter and thus quicker. the gear changes itself become more stiff and as a result, it is harder to miss a gear. the throws from 1-2 and 3-4 (as well as 5-6) are good, but nothin spectacular. the best improvement would be the shift from 2-3. much quicker and efficient.
the only disadvantage i can find atm is that the shift from 3-2 is a lot harder. the shifter naturally centres itself (hence the ease of shift from 2-3), and as a result much more effort is needed to shift from 3-2. because i am still new to it, i have often shifted from 3-4 instead of 3-2

dont worry brian.. you'll get used to it. consider it more of a teething problem than anything else. ;)

then when your groovey with that, flat shifting is so much easier. i can show u at track if i can get a drive

FYI: TRD short shifter in Japan, from Super Autobacs is 39.900 YEN, which, @ the current exchange of A$1 - 86 YEN does not work out much cheaper than what we pay. And they didn't have any on the shelf either... not much TRD stuff on the shelf, but all available on back order of course.

UPDATE: have been talking to Bruce Sollitt, TRD Australasia and he is actually going to come up with an ok deal for us. Will probably be about as cheap as we will get. Looking like Approx. A$450.00 ea. depending upon postage.

OK - i can confirm that the price landed in Sydney, for members, will be A$450.00.
Therefore, start dropping your Christmas hints, because this group buy is now officially open again!
Those of you who are interested should contact me directly, we need 5 firm orders to make this work. For those of you not in Sydney, i will work out what if any extra postage cost there will be. Firm committments only, please.

OK, considering Frylai is wading into the short shifter market here, who is still interested in the TRD option at around A$450, and who would like to go the Matt Lai Industries option?
Really, if Matt can promise the same feel as the TRD item, i would be sold. The B+M does not have the same feel, as reported by a few people on UK LOC who have driven or owned both items.
Matt Lai's GB here -> http://forum.altezzaclub.org.au/index.php?showtopic=2426

Count me in for the TRD shifter...for Frylai's wanna see someone try it first...TB2 or Brian should try it out first so they can compare it with the TRD shifter as they have previous knowledge and can give good writeup.

Good to hear, Reggie! I'm waiting for Matt to give me a lead time on his item before i decide, but if he doesn't answer soon, i will go ahead and get the TRD item instead.

DOES ANYONE ELSE WANT TO JOIN IN ON THIS TRD SHORT SHIFTER?? I NEED TO FINALISE NUMBERS!

Reg, Steve, you have PM's.
Current price looks to be 500NZ plus shipping, which right now is as good as you will find anywhere IMHO.
If anyone else in AU or NZ wants in on this, please PM me immediately.

T'bird, do you want to delete this whole topic and start a new one once you have a guaranteed price (if there ever is such a thing)

Let me know if Toyota will ship directly to you for the Aussie members, and send the NZ ones to our local dealers. If not I will pick them all up at Manukau and ship them off.

Frylai will be quite a few months off with his one, he is busy busy with the new IS250 kits at the moment. He'll be back down here in a few weeks, both sides of the Tasman. Maybe he can bring over 60kg of hand luggage!!!
