I agree with you, I'm pretty mediocre compared to Narada. He makes less screeching sound and smoother turn. I need to learn how to hit them apex properly as well.

Next one is on April 25 ANZAC day.

you don't have to go all out for your first time. The less mod parts you have the more you find yourself hook into it and justify the next mod you get.

A few parts per Track day makes its enjoyable.

Actually, just turning up and driving around the track makes it enjoyable!

Pics up soon, be patient! Don't have a lot of spare time to work on them all. Not the best, but some ok shots.

although i've got the big brakes, i'm only starting to learn how to use them. I've never been a confident braker, but i certainly improved as a result of yesterday.

Matt was the fastest on the day, with reggie making the biggest improvement by far. I think if we all improved our skills early 18s could possibly be on the cards but really these things are abit heavy and too gutless to be seriously competing against anything else that isn't an econobox on the track.

That being said, we might be able to beat that with better set-up cars and better tyres.

Too many variables to say anything for certain

</excuses>

do not get into the 1:18s on road tyres!!! :(

New track surface played havoc to me, I did end up having the car back. My mechanic Paul worked into the nights (really he did!) to get the car out. And immediately I put it into kitty litter twice in a row at turn 2. Basically there's grip, but the car didn't feel like changing direction like before. Took a good 5 laps to get used to, and even then I could only manage around a 1:18.5 or so. I know because the Ignis was doing 18:3 to 5s and I was either behind him, or in front but never able to really gain...he did have semi slicks, and I had my back seat, full spare, tools etc. But I have now massively awesome 8 pig brakes. It sounds like 8 pigs being killed at the same time when I use them... to the point where I was slowing down too quickly at the braking points I used to use.

Next time, with you guys getting into the under 1:20s, it's going to be a mission to get under the 1:18. :)

Just got back from Wakefield.

Gotta say I'm never going back there without slicks - semis just don't do it anymore :P

Fastest timed lap was 1:14.19 (2nd fast lap out) driven by a friend of mine. Searching for faster lap times started off looking very promising and faster than the 1:14 but ended up in several spectacular offs starting with a slide at the end of the straight at 170km/h... visions of rolling were flashing through my head... :P Unfortunately we didn't get it on film...

Needless to say we took it easy after that... and I have to clean all the dust from the inside of the car... :(

Given that I'm still not confident with engine running temperatures the Autronic is set up rather conservatively (to ramp down the rev limit as temps go up) however we raised it from 95 to 100. It felt rather strange hitting the rev limiter at 160 in 4th but I'm not keen on nuking the engine. Installed an engine oil cooler on wednesday but didn't have time to to anything sensible with gauges.

I ended up finishing the day with half an hour of practicing lines while "puddling" along in 4th gear, touching the brakes (literally) only at the entry to the fishhook and main straight - everywhere else there was either enough engine braking or sufficient grip to maintain corner speed. Times were quite consistent 1:17s with ever increasing confidence in maintaining corner speeds. Now to start using gears and full throttle without spinning out ;)
When going full pelt I'm still finding myself backing off and braking way too early - this is so much different to a 4AGE sprinter... Interestingly enough the rear brakes seem to be running a fair bit hotter than the fronts - I would've never thought the rears would need to be upgraded first.

I must say puddling along and just feeling the grip through corners, and concentrating on getting that extra 5km/h through a specific corner lap after lap is so much more enjoyable and less stressful than hammering the engine followed by slight panic attacks as you think the car will unsettle under heavy braking...

Might go on Anzac day :)

Mos.

PS. Oh yeah, an LSD and decent seat is an absolute must before the next one....

Nice write up MOS. What gear were you on the corners? I found myself dropping to 3rd on the second turn, and 2nd on both hairpin.
Also, seat upgrade may not be enough too...I found a harness is a better way to compensate lost traction between bum and seat  . I tried driving just with the bride seat and still got tossed around but the harness I think is a sure thing.

Reggie - when I was "puddling" along I was in 4th everywhere around the entire track. The 1:17s are not full throttle and only accelerating to 140 or so on the straight but attempting to take all the corners at max grip while being as smooth as possible.

2nd revs out at about 110, 3rd in excess of 150 but not sure of exact speed. Both hairpins are under 100, but using 2nd in this car torches the tyres at those speeds - using 3rd gear in those places is not a compromise as you still have enough torque to break traction - in fact 4th has plenty of torque to move the car when compared to a small capacity atmo even at 80km/h. Given the engine (in theory) has 300Nm from 1000rpm makes things a lot more flexible.

Seat - ah yes, harness was a given, sorry, I forgot to mention it. I wanted to bolt the harness in for this day but a) I couldn't find it and B) I didn't have enough time to do it as my friend pulled out and "forced" me to take his spot on tuesday night :P
Having said that, I think a properly fitted seat will still hold you much better than the factory seats even without the harness - if the seat is too wide for you it won't help you much.
