OK, i do believe it is booked out now, however Karl-Storms Of Fate will be without car this weekend, so he has been relegated to passenger. So PM him or myself quickly if you want to take his spot!

What a very nice day!!! Awesome turn out and must say...three IS trying to make a mark on the track..heheheh my first ever timed event and did a personal best of 1.20.7?? while TB2 did a 1.19.550 and Black200 also did a 1:19.8890 on the day. B)

I did the 1.20.7ish just before I lost control and got stuck at the "Kitty Litter". I found following someone a bit faster can help with the time as you can follow their lines and braking. ;)

All the mods I've done paid off as I was averaging 1.25 to 1.30 during my first trackday late last year. The Bride seat and the harness I got from Brett made a great difference as I can concentrate more on the track rather than holding on to the steering wheel for dear life. <_<

Other big help are the new wider wheels (gave me more traction), Cusco sway bars, and experience from last track day (brake harder "Storm_of_Fate" and "TB2" teaching) - also no miss gear for the whole day..woohhooo

The new resurface is a lot faster but also a lot slippier (if there is such a word). The most over used word of the day was "Under under under under!"

But my experience can really be better appreciated if you actually take your car into the track and see it for yourself.

(video's to follow soon)

Had another great day at Wakefield on Sunday.

Times are all here: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....24/02/2008.WAKE

Reggie receives 'Most Hardcore Racer' Award for today. Not only has he kitted up since his last track day, but he has lost weight (and over the XMAS period as well!!!) and he managed a 1:20 bracket on only his second track day. One to watch for SURE!

The times show how close we all were; once again, it was awesome sharing track time with such equal cars/drivers.

We all found the new surface grippier, and subsequently more 'understeery'. However after lots of talk about finding and breaking limits, i found that true to all the talk, modifying my line to curb or 'drive around' the understeer was what improved my times.

I think we need to start talking about control tires, at least for the front wheels!

Sounds like a great day!

Makes me wish I lived closer to Wakefield, had more spare time, and had a more track orientated setup! Although Im sure the heavier auto IS300 would be struggling to keep up with you guys!

So of the three cars wish has the best setup?

Reg has BC coilovers with cusco SW/B Front strut brace Enkei rims with Hankook Ventus rubber

TB has TRD coilovers with ???? stock rims with Michelin Primacy rubber

Charlie has Tein Flex coilovers with Rays rims and Goodyears (by memory) F&R strut braces (any sway bars?!?)

As far as I know all three cars have TRD short shifts & decent bucket seats.

Is Charlie's lap times quicker because of being a more experienced driver, or more to do with suspension setup?

What mod's do you think you guys could all do to knock a second of two off the lap times without going 1JZ/2JZ? I presume some semi slicks, stiffer spring rate coilovers such as the Tein RS coilovers, chassis bracing, alignment (camber kit), cage, TRD brake upgrade would come close to achieving this?

good points there. Some difference also are:

- Experience have a lot to do with it.

- All of us have upgraded Swaybars and Strut Braces

- Charlie have lightweight wheels and Supra Brakes

- I have a 4 point 3" Harness that Brett got and installed for me.

- Both Charlie and I have removed the rear seats (both bottom and back rest)

- TB2 got his best time when he was using his 16" stockies with Preceda's chasing me

- I lost 5 kilos in the new year ;)

- Charlie has BC exhaust - loud - I like :woot:

- Charlie only had few hours sleep...while I had 7 as I stayed in the onsite cabins

- Stewart from SpinningWheels aligned my car with -2 front camber and -3 rear camber

To put your times (Is200's) into perspective what were mildly tuned evo's/STi's/S13-15's putting out?

What were some of the quicker times of the days run by the big boys?

Im pretty sure that Charlies quicker lap times may have to do with his brakes?

Im sure by being able to brake later into corners would save a fair amount per lap, oh and maybe its Charlies bootwing which helps also

Narada's opinion of the car (taken from Jdmstyletuning.com)

Drove Reggie's IS200 too, another toyota and another impressive drive... for someone who hates toyotas, i must admit the classics are good cars, and proves that toyota were good, once apon a time... lol... The car was very able through the corners, great chassis, just needs about 100 more kw lol!

although i've got the big brakes, i'm only starting to learn how to use them. I've never been a confident braker, but i certainly improved as a result of yesterday.

Matt was the fastest on the day, with reggie making the biggest improvement by far. I think if we all improved our skills early 18s could possibly be on the cards but really these things are abit heavy and too gutless to be seriously competing against anything else that isn't an econobox on the track.

That being said, we might be able to beat that with better set-up cars and better tyres.

Too many variables to say anything for certain

I agree with Charlie, the car I feel can get 1.18 max without replacing it with some semi-slicks and/or engine upgrade.

Below is an example on what we lines we should take - Narada taking my car for a joyride (with Traction control turned on)

Charlie probably said it best - at the end of the day, there are MANY variables. For instance, I have just found out how all three of us can gain another quarter/half a second through the turn 3/4 complex ;-)

With regards to comparing with other cars, there were many Evo's under the 1:10 mark, with the fastest being the BEL Evo which ran a 1:04. However, a better yardstick would be to look at more similar cars. Glenn's RS200 with good suspension and intake/exhaust/headers ran a best of 1:13.9790 around Wakefield in the Dutton Rally in 2005. He tells me the car could have done better then, and will do even better now that it has quads. Mark ran 1:14.5340, IS200 TTE supercharged, much suspension work, semi slicks. If my memory still works, he dipped into the 1:13's the following year.

So you can see, suspension only does so much - being that our cars are considerably under powered, we lose ground down the straightaway, out of this fish hook / along the back straight. Up the hill out of turn 2 is painfully slow in 3rd, too fast for 2nd!

But, at the end of the day, the driver has the biggest impact on the car. The car is just a collection of components, it is the driver that sits in the car and 'tells' it what to do. A car doesn't understeer, a driver makes it understeer. Subsequently, there are XR6 turbo's and Type R's that had to let me pass through the corners on the track, but they would catch me up on the straight.

The thing i find is that out of turn 2, and out of the fish hook, i am wide open throttle. The car has more grip at the rear that i cannot use. I could be exiting those corners faster if i had more power to exploit the grip i'm not using. It is these scenarios that highlight the power deficency best, and show where additional power is needed on our cars, even on corner exit. It's bittersweet - the fun thing about our cars is that you can nail the throttle on corner exit, but then you know that there is more grip your not using when 100% throttle does not break traction.

Or maybe i'm just blabbering incoherently here :D

pfffft!

Greetings Narada - nice that you have finally joined us!

Why would I buy a DC2R when a four door RS200 or modded IS gives the same laptime, and so much more as a daily?

For those of you who don't know - Narada is "Mr Circuit Club". So if you have any questions regarding Circuit Club days, please feel free to direct your questions to Narada!.
