Its a start!

I reckon all traffic lights should go onto orange except in peak hour traffic-

and we should have the UK system of all the lights at an intersection going orange at once, so you get green-orange-red-red&orange together-green.

Kiwis are soooo slooow at getting going on a green... <_<

We won't even mention 'silent Policemen' in Aussie..... :P

European Cities Do Away with Traffic Signs

By Matthias Schulz

Are streets without traffic signs conceivable? Seven cities and
regions in Europe are giving it a try -- with good results. Drachten
in the Netherlands has gotten rid of 16 of its traffic light crossings
and converted the other two to roundabouts.
Ben Behnke

"We reject every form of legislation," the Russian aristocrat and
"father of anarchism" Mikhail Bakunin once thundered. The czar
banished him to Siberia. But now it seems his ideas are being
rediscovered.

European traffic planners are dreaming of streets free of rules and
directives. They want drivers and pedestrians to interact in a free
and humane way, as brethren -- by means of friendly gestures, nods of
the head and eye contact, without the harassment of prohibitions,
restrictions and warning signs.

A project implemented by the European Union is currently seeing seven
cities and regions clear-cutting their forest of traffic signs. Ejby,
in Denmark, is participating in the experiment, as are Ipswich in
England and the Belgian town of Ostende.

That's a good idea, I've seen a few of those around my area and it seems to work fairly well.

my girlfriend was telling me a while ago that in dubai in one particular suburb next to each trafflic light set, there is a countdown timer to when the light goes green.

So the light goes red and then a countdown from 40 begins. At 0 the light goes green - man that would solve so many roadrage issues we have these days
ftw

In malaysia they have the countdowns.....for both vehicular traffic, and pedestrian crossings.....I think it's great!
It would stop those people deciding to cross on the "flashing red man" if they knew they only had 5sec to get to the other side.....which would allow more turning traffic to get through etc.

OOOooo really, cool, that would help with hard launches at the lights especially when you know when its going to turn green, lets hope I get to drive the Evo9 again when I'm back in Malaysia for this short trip haha.
