I doubt it! $14,000 and dropping... Buyrite Cars has about 20 for sale usually, so they are pouring in as the ppl who had the '98 & '99 sell them in Japan. Far fewer of the post-'01s around. When they're under $10k then they will make great motorsport cars! |

But told my Wife it was a good investment having a Altezza, looks like I'll be in for a ear bashing when we come to sell. Maybe if I tell her the more mods we do the more likely it will hold its value

Maybe a lot of Mom-and-Pop's buying them, they were the luxury vehicles they aspired to a few years ago and now they can afford one? |

Just having a chat at work this afternoon, the import car scene here in NZ is going through a massive shuffle as new rules for importers/wholesalers are coming through. you will notice many of the smaller car yards falling apart and closing as the price of imports from japan fall, but these car dealers still need to make a profit on the cars... You will see the bigger selling more cars cheeper, they wont be making any extra money, just selling more to keep afloat... Just what we discused today... |

My father is a dealer, so I know exactly what they are going through. He's got an Altezza sitting on the yard, it's been there about 6 months now, was cheap when he got it but it's probably expensive now.. So if any of you are in the market for a vehicle, I know someone... |

Whats really scary is the fact you see just as many Altezzas as you do MY98, MY99 import Corollas, the late 90s must have been a boomer financial year for the Japanese. The more you spend the more you loose, a mate lost $65,000 over 3years with his (98) BMW 528i (paid $129,000 and sold for $65.000 I lost $8,000 over 3years when I sold my 01 Altezza,(brought for $29,990 in 03 and sold for $22,000in 06) so in comparison im very happy! Life is short, depreciation is a small price to pay to own nice cars .

I think that my tezza is worth every cent I paid for it, and I expect devaluation on any car I own (Except possibly my 73 escort, but when you get it rust free with live plates for $100 who's complaining) |

I think at last look, you could get a rough rs200 manual (like grade 2 or 3) in a 98 or 99 model for around 7k on the dock in nz... i know what im going to be building for my track car when i've finished the corolla.. |

I think you'll be waiting a while... AU are really weird with their import laws, it's not like Lexus and Toyota are "local" !! |

Steve Kelly predicted the increase in popularity and drop in values in the August 2002 issue of NZ Autocar (see below). I paid $44k for mine 5 years ago, but have enjoyed the car so immensely that I don't regret it and have no plans to trade it for something else because frankly I'm still to find another FR car which looks as good AND represents such good value for money! |

oh come on ur a rotary man haha a genuine rx2 or 3 sedan are all good and they seem to hold there value dont think a 30+ yr old altezza will hold any value like they have and a siliva s15 is a nice car to drive and good value for money |

Agreed on the s15, they are very nice cars... You can find them now for around 13k with decent k's coming off the boats... As for the RX's how rare are they! the reason they are so expensive and hold money well is ther rarity, plus their styling, they are very nice... Slap a SR20DET or a 3SGE Beams into one and you have a very nice combination...

losing money on late model cars will never change as car companies are always coming up with bigger and better things, out dating predecesors is how they keep making money and every year they release a new model car ours become more worthless dollar wise. Its about the car not money. |

Amen to that. However, if you sell cheap Jase, you might be in a position to buy cheap when you get here.. so perhaps it all balances out. |

I disagree. It has long been said that it is the spiritual successor of the AE86, and i think you will see a similar trend of inflated prices for good examples in the years to come. Think about it, it has all the right attributes - - a unique name and appearance in the Toyota range, which has not been used on any other model - a unique engine which has not been used on any other model - a unique chassis which has not been used on any other model - unique styling (tail-lights, gauges) which haven't carried over to any other model - FR layout, which is becoming a rare attribute in low - mid priced cars. - 6 speed manual gearbox, which is becoming increasingly scarce as an option on 4 door sedans The main factor is that it has no real successor - the IS250 is a wholly new and different car to the RS200, they have no real shared attributes. Which means the Altezza has become a unique car in Toyota's model history, similar to, say a 2000GT, at a stretch - higher volumes and more model variations, obviously. Keep in mind also that the RS200 was never sold outside of Japan, officially. So lower numbers exist when compared to IS200's and probably IS300's. |
