Hey,

So I think I've found a car to buy. However, the key has snapped and only has the lower part that goes in the ignition.

Can you get replacement keys from Toyota?

Cheers :)

Mr Minute cuts them but not for $50!! I got a spare (no remote locking button) cut for mine for $150 less 20% for AA membership (so $120), at Pakuranga mall.

Lonedog got a spare cut for about $130 at Mr Minute in Manukau mall.

Any decent key place should be able to do these now, unless they have a tranponder ship in the base of the key - if yours is snapped of chances are good that you don't need the transponder...

Its hard to say though, have been several discussions about this, tried to get mine cut, all shops found that my key had no transponder (apparently) but the key would not start the car, didnt even turn in the ignition. Been to several shops (Mr Minute in Glenfield, Takapuna, Milford) and all the keys were cut identical but still didn't work for some strange reason, dont know why, maybe its just my car (just like that phantom 105km/h beep that only I get...)
Contacting me for parts

$150?? When I got mine cut it was alot cheaper then that, was under $100 for sure. But I had minor problems with it, it would sometimes get stuck in the ignition and wouldn't come out. Later on I became the only driver of it so I just stuck with the factory key haha

I looked into this ages ago when I wanted a spare key cut.

The cheapest I found was a locksmith in Birkenhead, Auckland, called Armstrong Locksmiths. They are in the White Pages. First he tested my original to make sure I didn't need a key transponder (these are expensive). I didn't, so he cut me a key from a blank and only charged me something like $48.

It can get REALLY expensive if you want an original remote lock / unlock key from Toyota. I think I was quoted something like $400. It is also a very time consuming process. Toyota has to order the blank key. Once it arrives, you have to (notice I say YOU, not Toyota) find a locksmith to cut the key from the original. You then have to go back to Toyota and they send the key along with your immobiliser code to Japan to get the key 'activated'.
