Anyone have recommendations for a wireless router? This will be my 3rd. Belkin and D-Link have given problems.

Linksys and Netgear should be good

*warning- do not buy Linksys WAG54G as it has limited memory space for the firmware and the firmware has been problematic... other series r good... ;)

I also have a dlink, it plays up occasionally.

Working in IT for many years so have used many a brand. Had many problems with DLink post their production being outsourced a few years ago. Netgear are generally best bang for buck IMHO. Heard much praise for Billion, and am very happy with the Belkin i have at home.
But as you will see above, all brands have their attrition rate!

My Belkin crashes occasionally, my Dlink was OK but kinda liited in fnctionality. Netgear are supposed to be good but must say I have never used one.

linksys are supposed to be good too, have used some of their VPN+ADSL routers and seem OK but no idea about the wireless ones.

For clarity, you after a 108, 54, 22, or 11mpbs wireless?
ADSL router or ethernet router?

Thanks guys for your feedback. Basic requirements 54 Mbps ADSL router.

D-Link, drops out and then I have diffifculty reconnecting.
Belkin, generally ok connections, but stops with an amber indicator when the weather is warm/hot. Requires restarting ;)

Seems like they also have problems with 2.4 Ghz equipment around the house.

Mine too, so I stood it up on it's side (there's a lot of heat vents in the bottom on mine).
Hasn't crashed since then... worth a try!

you should also consider that the router is ADSL+2 ;)

The quality of broadband in NZ barely stretches the ADSL 1 spec but I agree its a good idea to future proof with a 2+ router.

Scoope, Stephen is in Sydney, Australia :P
We have ADSL2+ widely available in most metro areas in Australia now. It's significantly faster than ADSL, but naturally, your actual speed is determined by line quality, distance from exchange, and where you are pulling your data from. But downloads of 10's of megabytes in seconds is not too uncommon.

Ah, should have checked his locale!

I was living in Brisbane up until October last year and had ADSL2+ to my apartment. Broadband here is pedestrian by comparison...

been through a D-link and am on a belkin now!!

d-link was a piece of crap, would just reset every 20 minutes, and the belkin once every 2 weeks... that much i can live with.

I've never had a router that doesn't have constant heart attacks on me... i'd be interested to know!

Sounds like I'm not the only one having issues with these routers. So I'm just considering whether it's worth while trying another brand....I don't want to constantly run upstairs to restart the router!

And yes Flex, I am looking at an ADSL2+ compatible router.

I have always used netgear and they are generally very good. I am off to buy this new one though since I am having trouble with the wireless reception in a 2 storey townhouse with a concrete slab in between floors.
From what I have been told this is probably on of the best routers out there.

well d-link certainly isnt the best, better than dynalink. as a computer techie i've used them in so many private home setups for people and never had a problem... if you wanna go for the best, personal favourite is linksys, then comes netgear :)
