Anyone been/going?

I'm about to head off. Looking forward to seeing Muse (again), maybe some Killers, Lupe, and of course Tool. And the Femmes. So many clashes this year

Hell YES, Jase - Tool were sounding phenomenal, and they played Pushit, 46&2 and Sober, my three favourite Tool tracks, so i was well chuffed. But Muse were definitely the highlight, just a phenomenal band. Killers were suprisingly excellent, and Kasabian were very good as well. In fact - i didn't even venture near the Boiler Room this year.

i remember bdo and homebake when i was a young'un in high school
grinspoon, jebediah, silverchair, powderfinger and frenzal played everyyear and I can't believe carl cox played one of the most amazing sets ever in the boiler room

also remember when the mosh collapsed when limp bizkit played, INSANE pyrotechnics for rammstein, slipknot getting loose and the chillie peppers/foo fighters just carving up

what do you think thunderbird-- the line up and quality declining....?

Nah, your just getting old Shivvy, and loosing touch with what's hip :P

I've been to just about every BDO since 2000, and it's always a hit and miss affair. But at the end of the day, once you've done a smaller festival like Splendour, the large festivals like BDO are never that good anymore.

But you always see a couple of good sets, and there's always at least one surprise band for me, so you get your money's worth.

The only year I went was the year when the Chillies came (the Auckland one).

Other years I have been away from Auckland, or the line up just wasn't that appealing to me.

I prefer small gigs over big festivals like the BDO. There have been a few good gigs that I went to in the past two years (Joe Satriani, Mudvayne, Cannibal Corpse)

Most big bands that come down this way is mostly for Australia, and if we're lucky they'll even come down to Auckland.

Did you catch Muse, Ben? Phenomenal band. Their BDO set was arguably better than their Sydney show - the second one at least.
Saw the My Chems show tonight, better than their BDO set. My gawd, you've never seen so many emo kiddies running amok. They're dedication is almost hysterical. Shades of your Beatles back in the day.
